Iran. What if Iran decides to pre-emptively strike our troops in Iraq?

I just heard this scenario on Air America. Our troops could be trapped in eastern Iraq by the Iraqi insurgents and the Iranian military. I hadn't thought of this before and now I'm more scared than ever for our troops over there.

6. I hope you don't really mean that, RummyTheDummy.........
Just because you don't know anyone over there now doesn't mean there won't be someone you care about over there someday.

4. I hope that doesn't happen
Our troops are ultimately the victims of the Bush regime, whether they support him or not. They have been put into an incredibly hostile environment and the last thing we need is an attack from Iran forcing a draft over here, and the deaths of our soldiers.

However, if it does happen, I know who has blood on their hands. The fact is, Bush has a shitty record over the last four years, and if he gets re-elected with that record, even a nuclear war won't stop him from having free reign over us.

7. the troops would be in a lot of trouble ....
Iran won't go the standard military route, but probably would fight using guerilla tactics. The U.S. has 140,000+ troops, but they are all spread out. And Iran would find lots of help from the Iraqi population too.

8. The Iranians couldn't do an all-out assault racing across the desert
Even with their overwhelming numbers of ground forces, our air superiority would bomb them to dust before they came within firing range of our troops. A fleet of B52's loaded with cluster bombs would stop an Iranian military advance cold. They would have to conduct a large-scale guerrilla war, streaming across the border in small groups at night, coordinating with Iraqi resistance forces, using hit-and-run, sniping and IED attacks rather than armored vehicles and full-out assaults. It wouldn't be as spectacular a battle, but in the long run would be far more devastating to the US military.
