ignorance-the enemy of democracy.
i've been all over this country in my sixty years, i've lived in ohio, pa., fla., mass., delaware, n.j., md., and w.va. i've watched education take a back seat to entertainment, sports, politics, selfishness and the lack of common sense. i've witnessed the degrading of intellectualism. i've seen physical might and religious zealotry overtake reason and logic as the tools to succeed in our society. we are rome. bread and circus are what matter to our selfish, ignorant people. even on du, so many espouse the politics of hate, misinformation, mudslinging, bigotry, and victory at any cost, and i truly believe duers represent the best hope of an increasingly selfish american populace. ignorance rules our country, and worship of pretty baubles has provided the giant corporations with money to feed that ignorance, and ensure corporate control of our lives. imho we have lost a great battle in the war against ignorance, and the future looks dim, but i will never quit trying to educate all of my fellow americans. democracy depends on an educated voter, which is becoming an oxymoron in our once-great country.

1. Absolutely.
That's what we need to focus on, I think. That doesn't change. We need to fight against consumerism and ignorance in this country. The Republicans are getting people to vote based on racism, homophobia, and ignorance. We can do better than that. I honestly believe we can.
