6. I feel sorry for me, too.
Keep fighting. Make them count every ballot. Make them count fairly.

Don't stick us with a default draft.

9. 50% of America feels something
You have many contacts
Among the lumberjacks
To get you facts
When someone attacks your imagination
But nobody has any respect
Anyway they already expect you
To just give a check
To tax-deductible charity organizations

You've been with the professors
And they've all liked your looks
With great lawyers you have
Discussed lepers and crooks
You've been through all of
F. Scott Fitzgerald's books
You're very well read
It's well known

Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?

Well, the sword swallower, he comes up to you
And then he kneels
He crosses himself
And then he clicks his high heels
And without further notice
He asks you how it feels
And he says, "Here is your throat back
Thanks for the loan"

Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?

13. I already served and am now too old
Sorry, I volunteered at the ripe old age of 17 about a quarter century ago. I cannot join today as I am too old and I cannot be drafted.

People knew this was possible. America voted in favor of this if needed with their vote yesterday.

14. I don't think it is fair of you to call for the draft
Of course your service is appreciated, especially since it was volunteered. However, those of us of draft age that worked our asses off to turn out the youth vote should bare no burden for you trying to make a point to those that voted for the repugs.

20. Sorry, but the demographics disagree
The youth vote was no larger than in 2000. In other words, the youth overwhlemingly rejected even caring about this issue.

15. And why the fuck not invade Iran and NK while we are at it?
I'm too old to go, so I don't give a shit. Just make the draft nice and fair, start with the college campuses in the deep south.

3. It'll be interesting to watch.
And "skills draft" my ass. The Army doesn't need Cobol programmers, it needs people who can drive trucks and fire M-16s because that's who's getting blown up.

4. I am 23, I definitely hope not!
I refuse to fight for his wars, jail is better than that. The youth of this nation that refused to goto the polls will realize the ill of their ways...hopefully they will then remain dedicated for years to come.

7. Lets not forget this gem from Bush's own mouth
"After standing on the stage, after the debates, I made it very plain, we will not have an all-volunteer army."

As of this year i'm first in line. I'm a physicaly able male, if there is a draft I fear thats theres a very real possibility that I will be called up. Either way I will be labled a soldier or a draft dodger, I never asked for this....

10. No, and with all
these * supporters there really should not be a need. There should be lines for blocks around recruiting stations with those anxiously awaiting their turn to serve for the glorious leader.

12. Let them come for the assholes 7 children of the assholes that voted *
They want the chimperor so badly, let them pay the piper when he comes a calling. In fact, every one who voted for Shrub and who would be accepted into the military needs to be down at the local recruitment office signing up.

16. There will be no draft!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife is a member of the Draft Board thanks to a post here at DU!!

Yes it is true that the Draft Board has not been called for well over 30 years but that does not mean that there will be a draft.

Selective Service has several responsibilities one of which is to register all males when they are 18. The other important thing that SS does is to evaluate the availability of those registered with SS.

I believe (maybe wishful thinking) that the Board has been recalled, in fact it was 7 years ago that it was recalled, in order to evaluate the actual numbers of available registrants.

I hope I am right about this but just in case we are wrong at least we know that there will be at least one progressive on the Draft Board!!!

A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!! Although the draft board has been recalled there is NO FUNDING!!! My wifes coordinator has informed her that there is no money for training that was to take place in NOV. of this year. The earliest that they could meet would be after next years budget is approved and the money has been allocated.

If there were a plan for a draft then they would have founded the draft board. They have not at least in Illinois.

On a funny side note my wife works with many younger males and she flashed her Selective Service Draft Board Member ID Badge and warned them to be nice to her! She was only joking because I know she would work hard to help educate them on how to get out of the draft.

19. Thanks for the post
but I really do feel it's wishful thinking on your part. Tell your wife thanks for being one of the few, maybe the only, progressive on the board.

17. 18-34 and NO deferments
If that doesn't get the attention of the Sony Playstation set I don't know what will.

Of course, at age 29 (30 in Jan) I'm not in the safe zone. And my one-year old son will NEVER be conscripted into military service as long as I am alive. We'll see where this issue is at in 17 years!

22. I am so glad I don't have children.
For those of you who are draft age, you might think of relocating to Canada or Mexico before it comes. Seriously. I would if I were that age. There is a quagmire in Iraq and people are not volunteering in droves. How long can an all volunteer military last in this quagmire? Not long. I feel bad for you young people---that is, those of you who voted intelligently.
