Kerry won on Iraq & Economy
"Kerry won overwhelmingly among the 20 percent who pointed to the economy and jobs as the most important issue -- taking this group 80 percent to the president's 18 percent. The 15 percent who named the Iraq war as the race's top issue backed the senator by a 3-1 margin."

So it really doesn't make sense to blame Kerry for the loss of this election. Any Democrat would have run on those two issues as well. We missed the strength of the "moral values" voter, we just did.

1. and if Kerry had tried to get the moral values voters
He would have alienated the base, because he wuold have had to pander to homophobia, etc.

3. We could have done it
But it would have taken more than an economic rural strategy. I think the campaign bet on cities & suburbs. It's just so sad. And one more time I have to say to kids your age, I'm so sorry, it's not supposed to be this way.

6. Self-esteem beat us
The only self-esteem poor alienated rural people have is their religion. Until we reach out to their sense of family, community and hard work; we'll never win the rural vote again. These people really don't care that much about gays and they probably all know some girl who has gotten pregnant and understand abortion. Rural people are not a big block of church goers. There's ways to reach out to them, but the city organizers in each state have to do a better job.

7. How Can Kerry's Lead In Exit Polls Be Wrong But The Issues From Same
exit polls be correct?

Think about that.

Exit polls in districts with WITH paper trail were correct.
Exit polls in districts with NO paper trail were wrong?

And corrected to reflect paperless electronic machines?
