How to take back Congress in 2006
OK, folks, start brainstorming. The Democrats need to figure out how to reach out to those folks who just barely sided for Bush. What should be the party's message? And how can we streamline it for the masses? And what objectives should we scrap to bring in new voters?

1. Grass roots and ground up baby!
Everyone here needs to go to your local Democratic party meetings and GET ACTIVE! I am going to do it. We didn't have a single goddamn Dem run for ANY county office. I starting by doing everything I can to change that.

3. That's what we did...
But I'm thinking in terms of party platform, something that the Dems can offer Americans that will bring in more votes.

2. Having a message would be a good idea.
1. Put Howard Dean in charge.
2. Drop all corporate money
3. Fundraise only from grassroots.

You will then have a TRUE Democratic party that WILL win.

4. NO REAL ELECTIONS IN 2006...
UNLESS WE FIGHT TO EXPOSE THE ILLEGAL FRAUD OF MILLIONS OF VOTES IN THIS ONE.

People who cannot face that a Fascist Coup D'Etat has happened in their country, in spite of all the overwhealming evidence, make it inevitable for the coup to succeed.

Don't be some self-deluded idiot singing about the 2006 elections on your way to the gas chambers--it's NOW to fight or flea!

5. The Democratic Party is dead
I would have thought someone around here might have figured that out, especially when Kerry conceded without a fight.

We will never take back Congress so long as we are on the "wrong" side of the issues and are faced by political machines that play the media like a harp and have no problem with spewing the most vile and despicable lies out like widgets out of an assembly line.

We are fractionated (is that a word?) and obsessive about our own pet issues. We speak no common language of protest or progress; we have a party that is less than the sum of its parts.

What progressives should do is walk out the door of the Democratic political machine and form a progressive party that eschews the liberal label and works for common sense reforms on three issues; the deficits, the environment and economic protectionism. Build a political base around things like that and build a true Progressive party that can effect real change in the nation and the world.

Staying in the Democratic Party is like staying with an abusive spouse. Its always easier and its always the wrong thing to do.

6. I mostly agree with you
But political parties do rise from the dead.

The only way the Democrats keep me is by naming Howard Dean as the party chair.

7. Other political parties rise from the ashes of the old
Trying to revitalize the Democratic Party is a waste of time and effort. The only success we have had since Jimmy Carter was Clinton, and he tried to out-GOP the GOP.

We are not going to beat the GOP by becoming the GOP, and the actual difference between the Democratic Party AS IT REALLY EXISTS ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS and the GOP is negligible at best.

We need a new party, or we need to take over an existing one, like Perot's old Independence Party.

8. The GOP is cohesive
because they are all focused on one thing: GOD. Let me quickly think of all the Republicans I know (and I know a lot... I live in Utah).... yeah, all of them are Christian. Now I know a lot of good Christian Democrats as well (myself included) but that can't be our rallying cry. We need something that 95% of the party can get behind. We're too divided arguing against the right for gay rights, reproductive rights, environmental policies, etc... Their response can always go back to "God"... So in my opinion we need to focus on "rights". Equal rights, human rights, civil rights, whatever you want to call it. "God says abortion is murder." "Abortion is my right." A fundamental argument to counter their argument.... neither of which you can really argue with. That's my idea.

9. Major Problem for anyone contesting an incumbent is funds.
What we need to do is

1) Start raising funds to match incumbents...
(Face it folks, the opposition now controls the exec. and legis.
branches - one of their first items of business is going to be
an attempt to block off our primary source of equalizing the fund
issue - namely 527 groups.) This means we will most probably not
be able to rely on them for funding.

2) Identify and promote viable challengers for incumbents... We have
two years. One year for recruitment and vetting and one year for
PR work... Potential candidates with widespread name recognition
are not real plentiful in rural areas....

I AM SERIOUS....Anyone wants to start looking into something like this PM me.....

That SOB may have been reelected, but if we can reclaim Congress we can make his life as miserable as he's making ours.

This election is over....Let's get him in the next one.....

10. actually my results as a percentage were better then
the guy with the money up in Flagstaff and I had no money (less then K) so we need to do more then just give money or get viable candidates...we need to get a new message, and figure out how to talk to these people who vote against us.
