I've never felt prouder of my country
than I did driving home from Pennsylvania last night. Twice during the day I was overcome with emotion to the point of tears.

The first was when I showed up to vote in my predominately black precinct and the line was out the door and down the street. Usually I'm in and out in fifteen minutes--max. Yesterday it took an hour and a half. I haven't checked the numbers but if this was any indication of how black folk were voting (and I'm inclined to think it was) we need to make sure that it's acknowledged.

The second was when I showed up in York greeted by Kerry wavers at intersections and pulled into the field HQ parking lot filled with hundreds of Kerry cars and volunteers. By the time I got there, York and it's suburbs were covered and I got sent out to pick off Kerry voters out of suburban Hanover! I've never been involved in such a well organized, effective and extensive operation.

Yeah, we lost and it hurts but it's great to live in a country where these things can happen and I, for one, am going to keep at it until we win--and even after that! Victory is never final (and neither is defeat.)

3. Baltodemvet makes a good point
There are still a lot of great, caring, progressive and intelligent people in this country who worked hard to get Kerry to the White House, and we need to focus on that. Think about it: the GOP spends millions upon millions of dollars (perhaps billions) on propaganda, corporate mouthpieces like Limbaugh and Hannity, hateful ads, fictional publications, etc. and they squeaked by with a 51% win. Despite the nonstop attack, ridicule and slander against anyone who dared hold a a Democratic view, 49% of the people still rejected their shit.

If not for all the folks who worked so hard to topple Bush, he might well have sailed off with 60% of the vote. Or 70%. The fact there are 50 million people in this country who care about something other than a precious tax cut and who discarded the revisionistic garbage broadcast on the corporate-controlled media 24 hours a day shows how fragile their shrill little empire truly is.

4. We have half of America to be proud of.
We have ourselves to be proud of. And Sword, if you're calling Kerry a Pussy, I think you're misunderstanding him. Do you want him to stoop to Bush's level and pitch a fit?
