"You are dead to me now."
A guy, a technician where I work, is a military reservist. He is in the same service I was a veteran of for most of my adult life, and we know a few of the same people, so I always felt a sort of kinship there.

This guy had already been called up for a lengthy tour of duty in Iraq with the rather dangerous job of being a medic for a combat unit. Though an ethnic minority, and basically blue collar too, the guy thinks right wing and spouts macho RW thinking. Espoused ideas like "we need to kill every Iraqi male" as being the only way to "take care" of the situation there, etc.

I could tell over the last year that this guy had much less of a hard on for war than he used to after witnessing so much death. Had made some overtures to get transferred into the Air Force, or into an aviation unit in his service (much less personal risk than combat medic).

The guy just got called up again for a year in Iraq, initially for combat medic duty (he was sweating bullets), then switched to duty in a big medical command (undoubtedly much safer). Leaving very soon. I had gotten this guy's address with his unit and had intended to send him perhaps some gifts or care packages despite our differences.

Today I heard him wandering around saying he was looking for Kerry voters, to go gloat in their face. I felt rage. I didn't say anything, but I wanted to put my fist through his stupid fucking face. "You're dead to me now" is all I could think. If you get your leg blown off fighting in your boy emperor's war, that he would never send his own daughters or his friends' sons to, I will shed no tear, though I would have in the past.

Because it is your fault.

1. Good for you>>>>
he's a stupid twat, too stupid to understand that he's the one going to suffer. It's been said that a people get the government that they deserve. That's certainly true for the sheeple here. Contempt is far too weak a word for how I feel about far too many 'muricuns.

3. You're right. People who are never held accountable for their acts,
such as voting for Bush in this election, will never become responsible human beings. Re all of the disasters coming down the pike, starting with a draft for more neocon pre emptive wars, to the further fiscal abandonment of our public school system, and the further outsourcing of jobs abroad, and yet more destruction of environmental regs and the concommitant damage to our air and water quality, and the gutting of our social security system, and the failure to provide even the most basic health care (such as flu shots), and the appointment of born again judges, I hold every single person who voted for Bush personally accountable. And I intend to say to them, it's YOUR fault for keeping Bush in office.

5. I stayed home from work today. I had an excuse, though...had to haul
my daughter to her doctor appointment. I was glad for the separation.
After a couple of hours here at DU tonight, I've decided I don't need to call in sick tomorrow.
In fact, I'm wearing my "Proud To Be :kick: " hat. Rome wasn't un-built in a day, after all. We'll get there!

6. I used to think that EVERYONE
wanted to go to heaven and hell was reserved for those who REALLY flunked out.
Then I discovered
that there are those among us
who desperately want to spend all eternity
bathing in brimstone and frolicking in the fire.

Boy was I ever SHOCKED!!
I still do not understand it.
But I now know,
that many of these people
are to be found cavorting in church on Sunday
and Blogging for Bush on other days.
THIS is their Grand Old Prayer.

"O Lord our God,
help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells;
help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead;
help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain;
help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire;
help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief;
help us to turn them out roofless with their little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst,
sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter,
broken in spirit,
worn with travail,
imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it—for our sakes who adore Thee,
Lord, blast their hopes,
blight their lives,
protract their bitter pilgrimage,
make heavy their steps,
water their way with their tears,
stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet!
"We ask it,
in the spirit of love,
of Him Who is the Source of Love,
and Who is ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen."

scrubbed much to his relief. However, it may well be that they are scrubbed because they will need him in the combat medic role for the upcoming festivities in Fallujah and other places. Gotta go now, will finish this story a bit later...

8. So the dude was happy that his call-up orders were scrubbed, but he is
still sweating it because he knows it may simply be because we are gearing up to commit genocide in various parts of Iraq and they need enlisted cannon fodder such as himself for the job, and he might be in the process of getting new orders to report with the Marines in lieu of his cancelled hospital orders.

The guy actually said today, "they should send all Kerry supporters/voters to Iraq." (This reminded me of an old DU thread where someone's chickenhawk wingnut neighbor told him that they should send HIM, the DUer, to Iraq.)

I said, how now? Don't you have that a little backwards? Wouldn't it be more fair for people who actually voted for Bush, who support the Iraq War to have to fight in it, rather than make those who didn't want this president or war to fight it?

I'm starting to feel like I'd be just as happy if this guy dies over there. Seriously. Never would have said, or even thought anything like that before. One less person to stupidly vote away everything that is free and good in this country, and gloat in the faces of those who are trying to save his life...

9. Now I've heard it all
He wants "us" to go fight because he's scared. I suggest you go buy him a rubber chicken at a novelty store. A big, floppy, yellow rubber chicken. I'm in awe of your patience.

10. He's an asshat
I'll never understand these people. I swear, they all must be alien pod people.

I wonder if Doctors Without Borders leaving Iraq will have an impact on the miliatry? Seems like someone will have to pick up the slack...
