On Inauguration Day: A general strike
We should make a statement that the day Bush is sworn in again will not be business as usual.

We should organize a one-day general strike. Take the day off from work. Don't buy anything. Don't conduct any business.

Consider it a fast for the soul of America.

You are not a majority.

No one would even notice your strike.

And if you had enough people for a strike to matter, you would have won the election.

Stop wasting your time on outdated silliness, and do something useful

9. We don't need your attitude.
Some of us are willing to do whatever it takes to make an impact -- even if it means participating in a seemingly worthless strike. Four more years of Bush may mean nothing to you comfortably over in Canada, but you will feel his wrath eventually, whether it be through PNAC or their party.

For gawds sake, look at your calendar, and upgrade accordingly.

the streets of NYC during the Republican convention. The Repugs want us to fall in line and accept the fact that Bush is the President. BULLSHIT. Not gonna happen. And nothing would say that better than a resounding protest on his inauguration.

everyone here fought. Mocking us today is in poor taste and I don't particularly appreciate it. No one is saying that that is all they will do. It is an easy token. Something small to show our disdain. So spare us.

65. Can I join the food fight!
I wouldn't be so high and mighty Miss Maple! I know all about your FREE health care...it reminds me of the Bush "Clean Air Act". Sure it's free...but then you pay 15% sales tax on top of very high prices. At least I can still buy a gallon of milk for under $3.00. The last time I was in Canada it cost over 6 loonies...which is also what most people working their asses off make per hour! Then there's the excessive regulation and endless unnecessary fees...I could go on and on...but I don't have to tell you...do I? I understand your anger at us. Sadly, Bush is not just our problem, he's your problem too and the whole world's problem and you didn't even get a vote. But it's now our fault here at DU. You want to kick some American butt...then go over to free republic!

I apologize to all other Canadians on this board. I love Canada, in fact I own a house there. I just don't appreciate someone kicking us while we're down. Canadians are wonderful people...but you've got a few a$$holes too!

52. Not a Bad Idea
Greetings from Europe!

You have been forsaken by your governement and the Democratic party, you need to forsake the Fool's Dream and face the truth that resistance is up to each of you, nobody is going to do it for you, your party least of all. Once you realize that you need to start from scratch and rebuild your society from bottom up, it is empowering experience!

Making the Inauguration day the day of resistance is a good start. Just don't call it general strike, because it will not be that. Make it a carneval day, day of civilian resistance, day of freedom from all kind of oppression, religious, corporate etc.

Activate, spread the word, start a website, involve Kos and other bloggers, Indymedia, etc., make it movement, see what happens, have fun!

59. I agree. And to those of you who protested the RNC convention...
You should know that the world noticed.

The American media may have tried to block it out. But I looked at a couple of foreign papers at the time and they definitely noticed.

So if any of you felt your protesting made no difference, please don't feel that way. It absolutely did. I wish I could have been there.

And it is even more crucial now for the world to understand that SO many of us didn't want this.

So I think a protest would absolutely make a difference. Even just for that reason alone; but there are many other reasons.
