my folks, 30 yr. bornagains, are now fearful of the blind faith crowd
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 10:07 AM by mopaul
my parents, both life long yella dog dems, are also bornagains, for over 30 years now. my dad was bemoaning how the religious crazies who want the end of the world are now running the government. he complained to his preacher after a fiery vote for bush sermon. he now regrets falling for all the bornagain lies and mindsets.

i told him it's too fucking late to say your sorry.

1. I think there will be a bit of buyer's remorse
for a few people. Sheesh, there is no check on their power. That's what scares the living daylights out of me.

6. We all get scammed at some time in our lives. Live and learn.
It's too late for your Dad to say he's sorry. But it is not too late for him to help make amends by becoming an activist for change.

People are human. They make mistakes. The important thing is: can he admit he made the mistake and try to rectify the damage? You cannot ask of him any more than that.

8. Don't kick your dad if he's saying he's sorry, rejoice that

he's come to his senses! My parents became JWs and they were still wrapped up in that cult when they died. I'd have been so happy if they'd ever seen the light, realized how they'd been deceived.

Try to love your folks and welcome them back. Please. :-)

14. what does he have to be sorry for?
as I understand the story your dad voted for Kerry and told truth to power by complaining to the preacher.

I actually know a couple of liberal born agains. it is not religion I am against, it is how it is used.

17. I don't know that I qualify as "born again", but I am a regular
church goer and a "yellow-dog democrat" as are my mother and father.

Faith and liberalism are not mutually-exclusive..

18. I agree with this.
Being born-again doesn't make you mindless. I am born-again and I believe strongly in Christ's teachings, unfortunately, these beliefs aren't shared by the majority of the 'Christians' anymore. They like sheep have lost their way and are being led to the edge of a cliff by fanatics.

I don't follow the fanatics, I follow Christ. Religion has been twisted, but just as I hope the rest of the world can see that we are not ALL bushbots in this country, I hope people can also see that true Christians shouldn't be lumped into the pile of the christian right.

16. I think we are going to see a fracture in the Republican party
between the the Social Conservatives\Fundamentalists\Pat Robertsons and the Political Conservatives\Small Government types....

The Social conservatives want the government to enforce their views. They are happy with "Big Governemnt" as long as it is being used to further their agenda. Many "true" Republicans don't espouse this view
and I think this will be a source of conflict within the Republican party.

John McCain, Chuck Hagel, Schwartenhagger, Giuliani, Karl Rove are not fundamentalists. I wouldn't be surprised to see a third-party candidate or some kind of backlash next time around.

The important thig is to stay unified and stay active. Turn out the vote for local and state elections and get involved in liberal-leaning
organizations.

19. Good Lord...how can you lump Karl Rove in with ANY group... he is
without conscience-- the ultimate definition of a sociopathic exploitive speculator. Whichever group feeds his agenda.... that's who he IS.

I also don't think that Karl Rove wants his life run by Christian fundamentalists.

21. Thank goodness they're waking up. Makes me wonder how many
more are doing the same. Good for your father to complain to the preacher!! I saw that program about the Evangelicos last week or whenever--downright scary Moonie-type stuff.

Resolve the bitterness if you can, they no doubt need your love and suppport. It's never too late to wake up. As someone else posted, the NeoCons hijacked a segment of the population and are using them to their voting advantage in the name of *christianity*. GWB the Mess, not the messiah. Keeerist this feels like Nazi Germany must have felt in the mid 1930s.

Peace!!
