"It's the media, stupid" - a suggestion to help the cause
I think we would all agree that the vast majority of voters get their "information" from the MSM, especially the cable and broadcast television networks. Al Gore, apparently, is beginning a cable channel soon, INdTV ( http://www.indtv.tv ). I am not suggesting that we "piggyback" on his network, but rather finance an honest, comprehensive kind of CNN to air ALL of the facts. I think if our media is perceived as too Democratic or progressive, then most voters will not pay attention. If the proposed cable broadcast network is perceived as REALLY "fair and balanced" as opposed to the Faux propaganda, then we just may have a shot at getting the truth out there. This is a half-baked idea but I think a damn good one. Unfortunately, I have no media contacts and no expertise in this field. What do you think ?

1. "Reality-based" == "Liberal"
If you want to broadcast facts, it will never be perceived as fair and balanced by the wingers (see PBS in the olden days). Remember, the facts are biased against them.

Why not be openly partisan the way Fux is, and deprive the MSM whorez of another 30+ million viewers, this time from the left? They can only go on being biased because there is no alternative for us.

3. If there ever IS a reality-based network, it will have an audience.
Remember when CNN was new? People loved the hard news approach.

14. Did you have to spill the beans?
let the cat out of the bag, and reveal secrets? :)
Don't let anyone other than ourselves know the meaning of "reality-based"; let'em think what they want. We know what it means, and that's all we should be happy with.

But new code speak is a good start.

2. You are so right
I have been saying this for a very long time. The media is responsible. So many times I have heard people parrot the derogatory statements made on TV about Clinton then Kerry. With very little coverage of Kerry it is even surprising the amount of votes that he did get. Where did people hear about flip flops, where did they hear about the swift boaters, where did they hear about how liberal he was?
On and ON.

4. You're right.
Until the Left get it through their skull that the corporate media is pimping for the rethugs, we're going to lose alot of elections. We need outlets like AAR.

6. CNN file name story
CNN seems to have some "sleeper" Java-scripters who see the light.

7. The true liberal media
Air America is a start but, now comes the time that we (democrats) focus our full attention to our own multi-media conglomerate. Just as Fox news is the mouth piece of the right wing and bush corp we need to have our own totally liberal 24 hours news network.

Our own chain of television and radio stations across the country to get our word out (Truth).

If anything this election has shown us how easily Americans can be brain washed in believing a lie even when the truth is starring them right in the eye.

If they are going to label all democrats as liberal, then let us embrace our liberalism and shove it down their right wing conservative fundamentalist moral values.

8. As long as it's agenda is the pursuit of TRUTH
It's credibility cannot be smeared. If it's "GoreTV" though and coming from a liberal angle (or ANY angle for that matter), it'll only preach to the choir and will suffer successful smear campaigns.

We need TruthTV that will investigate and challenge any and every lie without regard for profit or Corporate interests.

It'll need to have the balls to refuse catering to the "tone" advertisers will demand they "tone down" for fear of pissing off idealogues.

In the long run though, Fox, CNN, et al will sucessfully smear INdTV because Al Gore has something to do with it and "has an axe to grind."

15. They ought to call it "Reality News Network"
TruthTV can be twisted by cons to spew lies.

11. The thing is, we needn't be afraid of news and information
that is simply put out there straight. We have no need to skew things to our side. Given the information, people can make intelligent choices -- more likely than not, the choices any of us would make.

13. Exactly!!
Yes, we need soundbytes -- ways to boil our most important messages down to small phrases that are easily repeated and remembered, but we don't need to lie. THEY need to lie. We could report the truth unbiasedly and it would work to our advantage.

12. Ted Turner, are you listening?
Starting a national network would be a huge undertaking and would cost many millions of dollars.
