Any other single DUers who feel more alone than ever?
This "election" (or should I be more accurate and say yet another "selection?") has been and is a horrible and unbelievable experience, and will only get worse as the far-right pushes its hateful agenda and there's nothing to stop them now since they have total control. Our worst nightmare has come true, and we are terrified for the sake of the country.

But to be honest, I think it's even worse for those of us who are single, especially if we live in repug area. There's very little support, especially for those who live alone, without kids or roommates. I don't know about other singles, but I'm feeling particularly alone right now, and that's likely to continue for quite awhile.

I know I could use a big hug, and here's one from me to all of you!  :grouphug:

I live alone in republican Texas hell - I rely on a couple of friends I have who are Democrats (it's hell and high water to find them) plus of course all of my DU friends.

fucking TEXAS, I sure do feel for ya! I don't know how you stand it, frankly. I mean, Ohio ain't no great bastion of intelligence and enlightenment, but it's light years from most parts of Texas.

14. I feel it's my mission to torment conservatives
throwing the facts at them is like a turkey shoot - it's painful how misinformed they truly are, and how they are a real testament to the fact that corporate media brainwashing really, really does work.

but in essence, single in the sense of having only myself, with my loved-one still 3,000 miles away. In that respect, I know exactly how you feel, despite living in a blue state.

Election night sucked, but sucked even more without her :evilfrown:

My county went bush. Funny how its a lower income county than the one I used to be in. Buncha blue collar kinda people around here. Not sure whats up. Montgomery county MD is super blue, yet is one of the richest counties in America. The other blue county in MD is PG, which has a lot of african americans and lower income people. Rest of this state is rural and voted bush, including most of my brain dead coworkers.

11. damn
that's what scares me most, I think... they are throwing the word "mandate" around like it meant something, but only serves to convince the brain-dead that their cause is just, their views are acceptable, and their methods are worthy

I'm not sure what I'm most afraid of: BushCo, or those that voted for him :scared:

13. I was just thinking this, and I read your post!! Synergy...
I'm somewhat new to DU, but have logged on at least once a day (usually more) since I found out about the site post debate online polling! DU has been a lifesaver. I am so saddened by the election results, but just posted to Chris Heinz (he wrote a letter to DU in help/support section) about all of the work that has been done here on the exit polling discrepancies in those counties/states that have used electronic cheating machines; hopefully he will read it and pass it on. I just don't want Kerry and Edwards to give up.

I live in a new part of Texas; from Houston and Dallas, Lubbock is a huge change, and being single I don't know that many people. A big hug back to you!

15. I'm feeling blue in a blue state
Today was the first day I could talk to anyone. I stayed home from work yesterday, and made an "appearance" today, then went home. It's also the first day I called my parents...

I'm 42 years old and need a root canal - and I had to call my parents to borrow money from them, because I don't have dental insurance, and don't have $ in the bank. Yet in this community, I am considered well-off, in comparison with the families supported by minimum-wage jobs...

People here in Wisconsin are in shock. I have not called any of my friends, and they know better than to call me right now.

But you're right: it hurts even more when you're single. I've got my cats, but it ain't the same. Whose shoulder do I cry on? Who will let me rant and scream?

And to hear absolutely NO response from our guys, other than to give up so easily, hurts even more.

Hugs to ya, liberalhistorian. I know your pain.

18. Single woman and I live in South Carolina
I'm surrounded by Republicans. I remember being set up a year or so ago with a great looking guy. He sounded good anyway. Until the point during dinner at which he told me that Democrats were out to ruin America and that FDR was the worst president in modern history because of the New Deal. Yes, I left him sitting there at the table. Is it any wonder I'm still single with "gems" like these surrounding me?

I lived in SW Oklahoma for the last 10 years and found my liberal match on match.com almost 2 years ago. He lived in N Texas about 50 miles away from me. Before meeting him, I had a very hard time meeting people who thought like me. It was really depressing for a while. I think some of the online dating services also offer just "seeking friends" options. I bet you'll find some liberal people in your area.

We just moved to N California 3 weeks ago (Sacramento area) because he found a nice job here. I am still looking for a job but am confident I'll find something soon.

23. absolutely
I live in the reddest of red states, Texas, but fortunately I have several liberals (or at least Dems) in my office. My boss, a Vietnam veteran, hates the Shrub with a vengeance. So I may not be as alone as some in red areas. But as far as being single goes, it is really hard to find like-minded people to date around here. I have gone out with Republicans but ultimately our world views are so different that it never could last. I have been a liberal since at least college, in Alabama, when my roommate was the worst sort of right-wing fundie there was. I realized there was no way I could be like that.

I know exactly what you're talking about. Although I live in Big Blue Maine, it seems most of my friends and coworkers have drunk the Kool Aid.
If it weren't for my brilliant 15yr old son, Democrat to the core, I would be crazy going nuts!

As a side note, a Shrub supporter I know, who has been trying to get me to go out with him for the longest time, sent me an email the day after election day.
He asked me if he could talk me into wearing a red thong in honor of W's win. Honest to God...
I wrote him back and said, "Sure, I'll wear a red thong for ya, as soon as you sign some enlistment papers, chickenshit".

I haven't heard back from him. Go figure. LOL
