My repuke "friend" told me someday I would see the light
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 10:19 AM by Hope_is_on_the_way
She said * is a good man. I went off and asked if all repukes were just stupid or totally brainwashed. Then she told me Kerry was the anti-christ!!! These are the kind of brainwashed people we are dealing with!!

5. I hadn't picked up the phone till this morning
I immediately regretted it!! She has called like 20 times since Wednesday morning and everytime I saw her name on caller id I ignored it. The first thing she said to me is "I thought maybe you were going to Ireland like Robert Redford" I asked what way she talking about, she said, "Robert Redford said he was moving to Ireland if * won, Ireland said they didn't want him". I am going back to screening my calls again.

6. I had a friend yesterday that told me that * had integrity
she said she couldn't support Kerry because he was a liar. I asked her if she knew he was an abusive drunk and she it didn't matter he admitted it. I asked her if she knew Kerry was a prosecutor beofre he became a Senator, of course she said no. She knew not one thing about Kerry but thought that * had integrity, she said she didn't want to let it come between us. We always had this joke that stupid was intolerable, I told her that I can not be around ignorant people, come back if she wanted after she did her homework, read and compare the lives of Kerry and * then tell me who has integrity

34. huh?
It is utterly unbelievable how lazy our public has become. They believe everything that is on television and do not search the facts for themselves. We are in a scary moment in our history. How does GWB have integrity when he bombed the hell out of a country for no reason? Let Osama go? Looted the surplus? Let 9-11 happen under his watch? Cursed out a reporter? Looks like a raving lunatic on every debate?

4. She is Believer not a Knower
She believes what she is told to believe. She does not use her mind for rational thought. She is a member of bush's base. How old is she? If under 35 urge her to join the military. If she has kids of age have her take them down to the recruiting station and sign them up. Offer to drive them there yourself. It is bush's bases patriotic duty to enlist TODAY.

SHE AND HER KIND MUST NOW PUT UP. SHUTTING UP IS NOT AN OPTION for members of bush's base.

10. Hope, I am serious as a heart attack
He is too young now but inform her that our kids will still be dying when he is 17 and it is her duty to "provide" him for the war she suppports. Stop by the Army recruiting office and get some business cards. Give her one for her future plans and keep some in your wallet for future nutjobs you run into. Urge her and/or her husband to hire on at Halliburton and drive a truck in Fallujah. I'm serious. They have to put up, they can't shut up.

I served proudly for 24 years. Experience definitely shapes opinions.

Good Luck!

11. I will do that
Someone needs to make these people put up as you say!! I asked her once if her son was killed in a war would it upset her, she said no, everyone has to die and obviously his time was up, if he didn't die at was he would have died at the same age at home. As I type this craziness I am wondering why I talk to this woman!!

17. A letter to the editor in the Houston Chronicle....
From a Bush lover, proclaimed that he would offer up his son on the altar in Iraq--because he believed. Just as in Wilfred Owen's "The Parable of the Old Men and the Young"

So Abram rose, and clave the wood, and went,
And took the fire with him, and a knife.
And as they sojourned both of them together,
Isaac the first-born spake and said, My Father,
Behold the preparations, fire and iron,
But where the lamb for this burnt-offering?
Then Abram bound the youth with belts and straps,
And builded parapets and trenches there,
And stretchèd forth the knife to slay his son.
When lo! an Angel called him out of heaven,
Saying, Lay not thy hand upon the lad,
Neither do anything to him, thy son.
Behold! Caught in a thicket by its horns,
A Ram. Offer the Ram of Pride instead.

But the old man would not so, but slew his son,
And half the seed of Europe, one by one.

Wilfred Owen was killed 11/8/1918 on the Western Front.

8. Tell her the "anti christ"
will supposedly be a person that the self professed "true believers" get suckered into following.

The anti christ appears as a representative God and the church to the "sheep" who are fooled and then led astray.

Seems that fits her and her guy Bush to a "T"

She doesn't even know her end times myths. What a fool.

26. A book cannot be evil.
Only the people who put a books words to foul purpose are evil.

Just as no book is any holier than any other. It's no worse, in my opinion, to destroy a bible than it is to destroy the shop manual for a 1972 Plymouth. They are just paper and ink.

The anger you feel is just projected despair. Examine it honestly and you'll recognize it. It's a legitimate emotion, and you'll recover.

Peace.

12. Their inability to see this will never happen will be their downfall.
They would dearly love to see our disagreement with their views and our opposition just melt away.

Wishful thinking.

Now, more than ever, we should tell people asking us to get on board to SHOVE IT.

They have a problem, and it's that so many of us have no use for their solutions and see them as immoral. Let them try to deal with that.

14. Tell her a true anti-christ would have won this election.
A true anti-christ appears to be good while doing unspeakable evil.

He would be able to send a nation into needless war, plunder it's economy at the expense of the middle class, poison a nations air and water, destroy that nations credibility abroad.

And all the while, that true anti-christ would be able to convince that very nations people that he is, at heart, a good and moral person who should be given another 4 years to do more of the same.

Honestly, I sometimes wonder if some of these so-called christians ever actually pay attention to their own prophecies.

33. These Fundies worry me with all that "Armageddon" crap.
They really believe that there's going to be a final battle, and the Return of the Jeebi and all.

The PNAC bunch, even the Jewish ones, believe that they have a DUTY to "hurry along" the end of the world. Why? I don't know. Maybe it's just an excuse to grab the oil and push the Arabs into the sea. i dunno, I'm more concerned right now with staying warm and fed this winter...

I agree with other who have said that we need to start "marginalizing" these nut-jobs. Ridicule them. Sneer at them, get others to laugh at them, because if we don't, then....

"Every KNEE shall BEND, Every HEAD shall BOW"

And I got bad knees, a stiff neck, and a really nasty mean streak in me.

25. I hear the same thing
My parents are always telling me that: "Someday, you'll wake up!" When I was a teenager, I used to get mad and tell them how I felt about that statement, but now I just get mad and keep it to myself because I figure it isn't worth it. I've tried desperately to change them over the years, but to no avail. I figure either my argument is not effective, or they are so deeply and blindly entrenched in their repug ways that they will never even listen to reason. My instinct says it's the latter. And I think most repugs are like that, which is frustrating. I really do believe that we DUers see something that the repugs don't, but communicating what we see to anyone who voted for Bush is a monumental task seeing as how they simply won't listen to anything that contradicts their dogma. As for my parents, I just listen to what they have to say and suck it down. They're my parents, and I love them, so I put up with our differences.

27. I just had a major blow up with a friend
It brought me to tears after, but I just could not sit and listen to her spew dittohead talkingpoints about why Kerry lost the election for a moment more! This is someone I never discussed politics with before, though she knew (perhaps because of my Kerry bumper stickers etc.) that I was a staunch Dem. She had the nerve to call me this morning and start telling me why Kerry lost. Well, I just lost it. Of course, it was the same old Kool-aide drinker talking points - easily countered, but I just couldn't believe she had so little respect for me as to try to tell me why Kerry lost. It infuriated me! Especially because we never discussed politics up until this time. Hell, I didn't think she even voted. She even started attacking Clinton (oh, how surprising!) and that was it! I let loose and then hung up on her as I could take no more. This is someone I really care about and we have a lot in common. We take care of each others dogs- in fact I just spent 4 nights at her house dog-sitting for her two pups. I just never knew she was so gullible!

I am so sick of this whole thing, but one thing I will not do is quit. I am not a quitter and I am more committed than ever to making sure the truth gets out about Shrub. Christ! He is ruining my friendships! He and the rightwing media are responsible for killing my friendships! It's crazy!

You will find reason and sanity here (most times :) )
Hope,I have found that asking people who are like your friend the following question to be effective:
"Who would Jesus bomb?"
They cannot answer the question without trapping themselves in faulty reasoning. Often, it ends the conversation as they sit there, their mouth agape..

(Lie) Tell her you think Bush might be a good man, but he surrounded himself with men that weren't. That you thought Cheney and Rumsfeld were not good men. That they were the ones misleading the president.

Hey it's just a thought. I've heard many people say that they support the president. That way it wouldn't seem like your attacking him. It wouldn't be attacking his faith, which some Bushies don't like.
