he is a loathsome indecent creature, campaigning on the ashes of the dead, exploiting our national tragedy for personal enrichment. If he does take a Cabinet post, does that mean he has to give up his $100,000 per speech fee? I believe it does.

If Ashcroft does indeed resign (how does Supreme Court Justice grab you there?), Giuliani might be considered. He would be great as he is on record as being pro-choice. Once in power, however, he could do as he pleased.

All of this total speculation.

I don't like Rudy either, but we aren't going to like ANY of the people shrub proposes. I've heard Rudy's name associated with 2 possible jobs. AG and Homeland Security. We already know that HS is an opening, and the rumors are flying hot & heavy that Ashcroft is leaving. Try to look at all the possibilities we know of that could be chosen for cabinet positions. You KNOW shrub isn't going to choose a Dem, so we have to think about which Pub would be better than the others. Looking at it like that, Rudy doesn't seem to be anywhere close to the worst.
