Keep a few milestones in mind --
When are Ohio's provisional/absentee ballots counted? November 11th.
When are Florida's provisional/absentee ballots counted? (I'm not certain about this one, but under state law, they do have to count them.)
When does the Electoral College meet? December 12th.
When is Inauguration Day? January 20, 2005.
This allows time to track down the "voting irregularities" and make the case in public that there was rampant cheating in the election. Not a lot of time, but enough to crack the nut open.
But it's not a process that John Kerry can initiate. When Gore did it four years ago, the Right was able to remobilize and won the battle in the press weeks before the Supreme Court handed Bush the Presidency. This time, Team Bush telegraphed their "strategery" with public statements calling the Democrats "delusional" for wanting to count all the votes ... at 3 AM on November 3rd!
Plenty of people are investigating voting fraud, especially black-box fraud, right now. The discrepancy in exit polling v. the official vote tallies in Diebold districts alone is enough to raise serious questions.
Kerry knows that conceding the election has no legal relevance -- if the Ohio vote tally gives him the majority, John Kerry becomes the President-Elect. No Ifs, Ands or Buts about it. Kerry also took all the wind out of the blow-hard GOP's sails by making a high-minded concession speech.
Let the investigation continue. You -- yes, you -- may even be able to help the process. If hard evidence of vote tampering emerges, a righteously enraged John Kerry will be mighty difficult to shout down.
Later in the Winter, when we have put our heads (back) together and are formulating a course of action for 2006 and 2008, we can assess the actions of John Kerry. But right now, it's simply an exercise in catharsis.
So relax. Get out of the house for a few hours this evening. Get a good night's sleep. Decompress. And keep an eye on the vote investigations and the upcoming Ohio provisional ballot count.
This isn't over by a longshot!
