"Speaking truth to power..."
This is what John Kerry said in that great speech about Iraq...he was talking about Iraq but also talking about his anti-Vietnam fight. I've been trying to figure out why Kerry conceded so quickly and there've been many pro & con reasons/comments here but I'd like to believe that this is what Kerry is all about...it's up to the people to change things. He's always said that his campaign wasn't about him, it was about us...

This voter fraud movement is amazing...we really have the power here to change things. I believe now that Kerry conceded so that we were free to do this. The media would have been all over him and he would have been seen as a spoiler. This is honest democracy at work and we WILL BE SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER!!!

Just had to get this off my mind...

1. Are you aware that "speaking truth to power"
is a phrase used by the religious left? I hear it at seminary all time, but can't remember if it comes from the Bible or MLK. But it represents the prophetic voice of wisdom, social justice, and compassion in a liberation theology model.

2. Kerry's reference...
was to the truth about Iraq and about protesting the war...he talked about all the protestors being not afraid to speak the truth to the powers of government...

4. Yeah, I know, I heard him during one of the debates.
But I'm sure it comes from his Catholic social teachings. At least, that's how the room full of seminarians I watched it with interpreted it: as code, speaking to us on the religious left.

It's a great concept, very empowering, very radical. And one of the concepts I claim as the basis for my future ministry. Gotta be a rise of the radical religious left to combat the rise of the radical religious right.
