For Those Who Choose To Stay and Fight...
How far are you willing to go? Understand, this period that we're in is unlike any other including the Civil Rights era. Back then, you had Kennedy and Johnson as presidents, Bobby Kennedy as A.G., a progressive Supreme Court, and a strong independent national news media. Today, you have just the opposite. There are no institutions that will help our cause. None. No one that we can turn to. Marching, protesting, and voting will not work this time. Appeals to conscience are useless as well.

If things get worse, a military draft, an economic collapse, or a new Patriot Act which shreds the Constitution, you will only have one, and only one, option. I don't think that I have to say what that option is, but are you willing to take it.

I'm not willing to go that route, and that's why I've chosen to leave the U.S., and unless you're willing to go that route, then you have no right to criticize anyone who also chooses to leave.

1. Do what you must. No blame from me for your decision.
Just don't expect a party for your return once we and the next generation fix the mess.

2. Bye
Hope you change your mind. I say - Give me liberty or ... oh, that's right, you already know how it goes.

Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 11:04 PM by teach1st
But I personally believe in our Nation and I will stay here to defend its ideals, no matter what it takes. I think it's noble to carry on defending freedom in the gret American traditon. Others may not be able to do so.

4. So you're saying that we are required to commit violence if we stay here?
Don't let the door hitcha on the way out.

6. Tell Me How You're Going To Fight?
How? You're going to march? The media won't cover it nor give your voice air time. You're going to sue? They control the courts. You're going to vote? They've taken that away from you. You're going to appeal to the world? Bush doesn't care about international opinion on anything.

So, you tell me. How are you going to fight?

5. There are only two choices
Flee America or take up arms.

Trust me those are the only two choices. I know it might seem like there are other choices, but really that's it. Oh but let me pretend that taking up arms isn't what I"m talking about.

Rmember two choices--flee or fight (with violence). Only two choices.

And anybody who doesn't agree with this analysis is a hypocrite or a fool.

9. there's passive resistance via economic collapse
surprisingly enough we are in a weak enough economic state that passive resistance via gentle economic disruption (move slow, drive slow, work slow, buy little, use gov't resources, consumption-less holidays) has a very strong chance of stopping america's little dictator in his tracks cold.

13. "Anyone who doesn't agree with this is a hypocrite or a fool."
Since when is it foolish or hypocritical to practice peaceful resistance?

17. Irony may not be your first language
I don't agree with the opinon I was expressing. I was just expressing it in as harsh a tone as possible to demonstrate it's foolishness.

7. 100% Dead-on
Can't argue with your stand at all.

My wife is expecting our first child. What do you think my choice is? I am laying the groundwork for getting the fuck out of this shithole as I type this response.

People who criticize us can do it all they want. But they are fools. This "election" has shown us that we really are powerless. To stay and fight would be suicide -- literally. Once things get worse, and they will, the slide downhill into totalitarianism will be very fast. Resistance, as if there will be any, would be crushed.

I refuse to be here when it happens.

Get your child out. When the shit goes down, you don't want your child exposed to it.

8. I'm planning to "take back" my home town.
It came to me yesterday ... one small, dark town at a time....

See http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=106&topic_id=12205&mesg_id=12205

If even 1 in 10 democrats adopted this approach - or any portion of it -- we really can change the landscape.

Knowledge IS power.

14. There are more than two options.
It's more than stay and fight versus leave. You can stay and persuade. You can stay and vote. You can stay and expose fraud. You can stay and denounce the evil you see.

When I see an army of brownshirts rounding up the hippies, I'll start packing. Until then, I want my country back. And I want as many people like you beside me as possible.

18. I'll be able to see it coming.
Besides, I can pack in a hurry. :) But then, I'm not too far from the border.

I have to wonder, though, with Ascroft possibly retiring, if things might relax a little on the civil liberties front. Bush doesn't have absolute power. The people can turn on him and his party by the next midterm elections, and likely will.

Remember, the Plame scandal could take Cheney down and implicate Bush. Spitzer is considering a 9-11 investigation. So things could be interesting for awhile.

15. I do have a line drawn in the sand
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 01:19 AM by sloppyliberal
I will continue to fight for democracy, not literally with guns and ammunition, but with words and volunteer efforts.
However, I'm a just a permanent resident, and if it gets to the point where the freedom of speech is being eroded, I'm outta here, and I'll continue the fight spreading the truth via the internet and radio, from outside the country. There are those that can fight, and those that can provide logistics and communications, I'll do the communications part, besides I'm a Brit, everyone knows we have no idea which end of a gun is which! :P
