Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 12:47 AM by devrc243
I know we are in a time of mourning and "adjustment" but come on. ENOUGH. No one and I mean NO ONE should have to "compromise" their values for something that isn't true to them. Fake people are obvious. "Pandering" is repulsive. I have been a Democrat for over 20 years and have a VERY conservative southern DEMOCRATIC 84 year-old mother, who quite frankly, is smarter than most of the shit I've seen in a long time. Not only does she recognize that this election reeks of fraud, but she also recognizes that bitching about how well we do "this or that" isn't going to change the fact that social security needs to be protected and money talks.

Wasting time scratching our head on issues that are obvious Rove wedge issues, makes this fat little fuck laugh even louder. Don't give him the satisfaction, 'cause you know he's watching.

1. Don't worry, your mother will quickly be called
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 12:48 AM by Lucky Luciano
a commie liberal wimpy hand-out needing weak ass big government needing lady once the right wingers start to tout social security reform. WHn she does not join the bandwagon she will be labeled a socialist commie Osama lover. The trouble is not the democrats being too liberal. They are wehre they always have been...it is that the center has been marketed so that it has moved to the far right.

2. No she won't 'cause she is a WWII veteran--that's right an ARMY
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 12:52 AM by devrc243
nurse who spent 2 years in the south pacific ducking japs and watching hospital after hospital bombed. The love of her life, my dad, was miles away in Normandy. Hell no, my mother has seen HELL and she is not afraid to speak. She is mad as hell that Bush has cut her VA benefits and raised her Medicare insurance by 17%--something that she feels is a slap in the face since she did her time, while he mooched off the respect of other veterans.

No she's done her time, she just worries for us--true kindness.

4. We don't say "jap" here
That is a derogatory term, and many people find it hurtful and offensive.
Just in case you didn't know. Just in case you don't want to sound like a bigot.

9. oh, give me a break--this is a term that was used during this time
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 01:36 AM by devrc243
:eyes: It's not my term, but represents a time when "Jap" was ugly. It's to prove a point. ---oh my god--come on--join in on the conversation:eyes:

11. Do what you think is best !
If you don't mind sounding like a freeper, then, by all means, continue to use an offensive, derogatory word to describe millions of people.
IF, on the other hand, you wish to sound like a progressive person, you might reconsider.

12. first of all, I'm not a freeper, not that I have to defend myself
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 01:43 AM by devrc243
secondly, "japs" is a term that was used in a time that was very bitter. When I was in college, one of my best friends was an exchange student from Japan. She was and still is the kindest, most respectful person I know. I took her home with me during a holiday break and my parents embraced her. This term is strictly used for historical purposes, and to think otherwise is just picking a "freeper fight" as you call it.

13. I never said you were a freeper,
Only that you sound like one, when you use terms like that.
You do with that knowledge as you wish.

Did you call your college friend "jap" when you brought her to your parent's house ? Do you use the word "gook" to describe your Vietnamese friends ? That was a bitter war. The civil war here in the U.S. was a bitter war, do you use the term "nigger" when speaking of African Americans ? Are you starting to see my point ? The word is offensive, all of these words are offensive, regardless of how or why they were once used. They are hurtful and mean and they are words of hatred, as you yourself pointed out.

Progressive people try not to be offensive and hateful and mean. I would hope that is also a goal of yours. I am giving you the benefit of the doubt, and assuming that you did not intend to be offensive. You have been alerted, next time you can not claim that you didn't know !

Peace, Joe

I have NEVER in the two years I've been at this site been abusive or derogatory to any race, religion, or view. I will no longer "debate" this with you as this is a "diversion" from the initial topic. You, my friend have too been alerted. I've been here a little longer and even though I choose to believe the good in everyone, I'm also learning not to be so naive'.

Goodnight.

15. I'm not picking a fight
I am trying to educate you. Take it as you will. You claim to believe the good in everyone, but not me ? Because I pointed out that the word you used is offensive ?

Goodnight, indeed !!!!!

16. the "word" was used in the context of the time I was portraying
it was an "example" and not to be taken literally. Of all the post to this thread, you are the only one to take it offensively--

5. Yes she will
my hubby just retired from the Navy, has paid his licks, did his service

They have already called him a commie lover et al

My brother in law served in Nam, and did 20 in the Navy, he is a commie lover et al

By the way, so was one Normandy Vet I know (neighboor)

Oh and trust me, they want to cancell ALL the VA benefits.

So if you think they won't, yes, yes they will

Oh and by the way, from a Navy wife (and a veteran Medic who has also seen hell), thank your mom for her service... I know vets are not thanked enough.

another was alive half the time, but they still believe and respected their oath to the military and the USA, as she put in so many of her letters.

6. I know your mother is not a left winger,
but if she deviates from the conservative line in any way she will be labeled a commie by many of the freeper types.

3. We have to stop responding
to their values talk and put them on the defensive. They want to talk ten commandments then let's talk. Thou shalt not steal (Halliburtin), Thou shalt not kill (as in all of our troop and 100,000 Iraqi's for a war of lies). How about the sermon on the mount? These are our values and not like their message of hate and exclusion.

7. I did today... it was fun
My favorite, Though shall not put others in front of me, as they worship to a false god (Money). Some are even scarier, as they think that shruby is truly either in direct communication with God or the vehicle to bring back the son of man... this is heresy, or makes shruby the anti christ... which is ironic.

And yes calling them on it, they go livid

Oh and yes, reframe poverty by reminding these "moral majority" crowd that Christ would not spend his time with the rich, but with the poor they deride. (The parable of the rich man)

But what woudl we know about morality? We do not care about adam and steve, you know... just ask them.
