Anyone else getting *very* skeptical of CNN?
I'm beginning to think that CNN is seriously in cahoots with the government in some way. Aside from the obvious cover-ups for Bush, and RW biased reporting, I saw the exit polls the other night before they changed them with my own eyes. I saw this. It's no theory.

I am normally an emotionally stable person and college graduate who has never been into conspiracy theories before. I know I'm not crazy.

I honestly wonder if it is good to share tips with CNN or alert them, or send them letters of any kind. I am starting to wonder if they are in bed with the enemy.

3. Well it's about time you noticed
How long you been on DU?

:)

I've been at war with CNN all year long.

They are worse than Pox News because they are more subversive.

Yes, they are in cahoots. Watch reality, then watch CNN and you'll see that they go out of their way to shove the Bush fantasy world down America's throat.

I have been on to the major media corps for four years too. Major media is about making money. They are all in bed with the GOP, no doubt.

What I'm saying is that I *saw* them tamper with election related results. This is chilling.

CNN has been on my contact list any time I alert the media to tips or make suggestions for stories.

I'm now thinking I'm going to just take them off my list.

Fox was never on the list in the first place.

the president of CNN visited Capitol Hill a couple years ago and asked repubs what CNN could do to get more viewers, as in FOX.

last year they purged their real reporters for the beauty queen contestants they have now.

remember the video Letterman showed of the bored boy at a bush speech. the white house called cnn twice to correct the news reader with lies. Letterman set it straight on his show. But note that they did have direct communication with the white house (twice) in the span of about 4 minutes.

they have been probush all along.

these are just my observations

11. Well, Candy Crowley's reports from the Kerry campaign were
blatantly biased. I was shocked. I hadn't followed much tv news lately, but her choice of words just reaked of prejudice. For example, on Monday, the theme of her report was "Last". She kept saying the "last this, the last that" This is the last day for the Kerry campaign.

I can not believe they got away with it. Where is fairness in journalism? IS THERE NOBODY OUT THERE???? HELLLOOOO!!! Someone call them on this crap.

...give him a pass for doing that, it became total corporate agenda. Do not, repeat after me, do not watch network or cable news. Get you news sources from the internet. Foreign news sources. You'd be surprised that you'll find more out about your own country by reading a foreign newspaper, then you will from getting the news from your own country.

The first Gulf war was the first made for TV War.

Military Intelligence put a team into the newsroom to approve all scripts and news stories dealing with the War.

CNN is WORSE than Fox.

Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 01:27 AM by bill grasso
Yeah.. I think we all noticed the "statistical adjustments."

Corporate control of media says it all... When Faux started beating their ass in the ratings, the big money boys upstairs changed the tone.. Most of the talking heads there were star-fuckers from way back anyway, so the jump was easy.. Ever watch Woodruff, Zahn, Blitzer, etc get all excited in the presence of power?

If you ever get to watch CNN overseas, it's a more objective operation.. more on the order of BBC or CBC, with a tad less integrity.

Only Christiane Amanpour gets my respect..

Your skepticism is good regarding the tipline. I think anyone who sends tips to anyone but Olberman should get his head examined. Opinions are fine to share with the networks and cable news, but why would you go to unfriendly territory to divulge tips ?

29. but CNN is liberal
so the principal at my son's high school told me when I complained about the office staff watching Fox news during working hours. He claimed that all over the building different staff members were watching other channels like CNN. When I pointed out that CNN wasn't liberal all he could say was "some people would argue with you about that"

(I did send an e-mail to the superintendent and the school board asking how the staff has time to watch TV.)

32. CNN = Cheerleading, Not News. And the article at this link --
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 12:33 PM by highplainsdem
http://www.laweekly.com/ink/04/45/deadline-finke.php -- helps explain why CNN and the other networks are pro-Bush.

I'll second Herbster's recommendation of Media Matters, http://mediamatters.org/ , as a way of keeping track of media bias and lies.

I'm editing this to add the most relevant paragraph from that LA Weekly column:

And Time Warner’s chairman and CEO, Dick Parsons, doesn’t need to articulate his politics since he’s a Republican insider from way back. After Parsons nailed the top score on the New York state bar exam, he caught the eye of the late Nelson A. Rockefeller and even lived in Rockefeller’s compound for a time, eventually becoming a trustee of the former vice president’s estate after Rockefeller’s death in 1979. Parsons also is a former law partner of Rudy Giuliani and even managed Giuliani’s transition into the NYC Mayor’s Office. Who better to have at Time Warner’s helm than a GOP insider when the SEC is investigating your company?

By the way, that column is the perfect answer to anyone claiming the networks (except FOX) are liberal.

33. "Tell the Truth and Run: George Seldes and the American Press"

I saw this on FSTV last night - it was great. Unfortunately corporate -run media has been bad for a long time.

George Seldes wrote for the Chicago Tribune and different things (got run out of Italy) and eventually started his own publication "in fact" which exposed media nonsense & brought stories to light (like tobacco being unhealthy) - influenced Daniel Ellsberg, Ralph Nader and FAIR...

"THEREFORE PROTEST": A SELDES SAMPLER
(as published in the Sept/Oct '95 EXTRA!)

The failure of a free press in most countries is usually blamed on the readers. Every nation gets the government--and the press--it deserves. This is too facile a remark. The people deserve better in most governments and press. Readers, in millions of cases, have no way of finding out whether their newspapers are fair or not, honest or distorted, truthful or colored....

There are less than a dozen independent newspapers in the whole country, and even that small number is dependent on advertisers and other things, and all these other things which revolve around money and profit make real independence impossible. No newspaper which is supporting one class of society is independent.

--Lords of the Press (1938)

One of the biggest pieces of bunkum shoved down the American throat was the story of the 1929 Italian election. For this I cannot blame my colleagues.

Forbidden to write anything critical of the Fascist regime, they could only report what the hierarchy wanted them to report. The clever and honest American and British journalists, however, did insinuate startling facts in their stories; these insinuations, unfortunately, were between the lines and not for those who read as they run, and the American public is mostly a running reading public.

--Can These Things Be! (1931)

Only in democratic countries is there the beginning of a suspicion that the old axioms about the press being the bulwark of liberty is something that affects the daily life of the people--that it is a living warning rather than an ancient wisecrack. A people that wants to be free must arm itself with a free press.

--Lords of the Press

Never grow weary of protesting. In this sensitive business of dealing with the public which depends on faith and good will, protest is a most effective weapon. Therefore protest.

--Lords of the Press.
