what's the deal with Senator Reid, new minority leader
he sounds awefully conservative to me. Any input from anyone?

1. He's a nice guy.
He's very smart and a hard worker. He's Mormon -- which is O.K. I have many Mormon friends. But, he is anti-choice. I have a problem with that largely because being pro-Choice is our base.

2. Agreed, but..
I agree he sure seems like a nice guy. I don't know that we need any more "nice" guys though. We need some serious teeth, and fast. Not sure where that would come from though. As a Nevadan, I would like him to be minoirty leader because it will probably benefit our state, but as a Dem, I'm not sure he is an incredibly strong choice.

3. I like him quite a bit, but
does he have any fire in the belly? Is he aggressive, assertive, go get 'em enough? Seems a little mild-mannered to me, and after Daschle, I'm fed up to here with that approach.

4. Don't write this guy off yet. I've seen him operate a bit and saw
him in some spirited debates on the senate floor on the only network worth watching for news, C-SPAN. He won't take the crap Tommy D took and he's not married to a wealthy lobbyist like our former leader was.

There will be several opportunities in the next 30-60 days for form an informed opinion.

Corporate America controls the media and we get manufactured news.
Corporate America now controls the voting machines and we get manufactured elections.

5. Give him a chance
I forget what it was over, but he led a filibuster because he was sick of being pushed around. He read from a book he wrote about Nevada - for hours and hours.

He also held hearings in the early 90's for the chemically injured at Boeing who were shafted by Boeing, when our Washington state politicians would not touch the issue.

I am hopeful.

6. Reid's a good guy
I don't care that he may be "conservative" on a few issues, I care that he is a fighter against the Repugs who would usurp the government. He's more of a figher than Daschle, which is a good thing, and he also has the right combination on issues to reach out to Joe Sixpack, which is also a good thing.

Harry Reid is very similar in that regard to Sen. Byrd of West Virginia. He will stand up against 'puke court stacking, no matter what his personal views on abortion are. He has already proven that. He has also pushed hard on such issues as opposition to nuclear dumping at Yucca Mountain, and voting rights for ex-felons. On those two issues alone, I'm glad it's Reid who is the new minority leader, and not anyone else. (Well, the absolute best choice would be Russ Feingold - but Harry Reid is a good choice too.)

Ideology in other words is less important than whether the person is a fighter and a fiercely partisan Democrat.

7. I've seen him a couple of times on TV and he seemed pretty feisty...
likable, seems clever as he pours on the folksiness...

8. really? a good guy? well how about this good guy helping us out
with this voting fraud stuff all over the nation like those three congressmen? Reid, wasn't he one of the many Senators who did nothing with the black congressfolks asked for help with the 2000 election fraud?
