I think it's time to stop saying fascism is coming to America.
Fascism has well and truly arrived.

A second stolen election should seal the deal for all who can see it was stolen.

For those who say it's yet to come, what are you waiting to see?

Remember, fascism does not require a Hitler or a Holocaust. Mussolini, Franco, Salazar, Peron and others were fascist rulers as well.

Sorry if this sounds nihilist, but the lights are going out. If you can't see it, it's because your eyes are adjusting to the dark.

2. I fully realized this while shopping in the base commissary
and hearing on FoxNews, which is ever present inside, Dick Cheney, exhorting Americans to change other countries before they change us.

The irony. Americans did more to change the face of its own constitution than any terrorist ever could.

3. yes. I like that better than empire. FASCISM.
those adoring Bush followers including even some in the chattering classes love to ramble on about US as empire as though they are picturing BUsh in Caesar robes and olive branch wreath.

THat is a disgusting idea. It is nowhere near a correct analogy. Bush is very close in language and action like an autocratic dictator who believes people should believe party above all.

He has made the US Government a wholly owned subsidiary of the powerful corporations who write a significant number of the laws.

We are invading nations. We are having sham elections. We are seeing a creeping nationalism that is belligerant and easily stoked for revenge.

People once thought of as friends or neighbors would seemingly want to knock our heads off if we disagree with the president, and the scarier part is government leaders are working overtime to silence dissent.

This is truly a fascist state right now. at this moment.

6. From Dictionary.com:
fas·cism (fshzm)
n. often Fascism
A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.

What else would you call the Bush admin?

5. Exactly...
we now have private corporations providing the damn voting machines ! And they're flawed as hell!

Not to mention the no-bid contracts we passed out in Iraq, mainly to Halliburton...

Very much so are we now a fascist (with a small f) country! And it's just beginning...:(

7. Something Orwell said in "Politics and the English Language":
"The word 'fascism' has now no meaning except in so far as it signifies 'something not desirable.'"

I think this is important. Because we should not wait for fascists to embrace the term before we have the courage to call them what they are.

They will continue to call themselves "conservatives," though they are actually far from it. We shouldn't share in perpetuating the illusion.

8. we might soon start to see universities with a liberal bend being either
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 07:46 AM by flordehinojos
closed (or threatened) particularly if they receive any kinds of federal funds to mend their ways and toe the harsh bush line or they will be closed by the government ....

it won't be too long before we start to see, students and professors who hold a progressive or liberal line of thought either being arrested, or fired, or expelled, or somehow ostracized from their institutions of higher learnings for being what the bush administration will soon begin to call "enemies of the state" ...

it won't be long before ... jackboots and brown shits will march down our highways and main streets ...

it won't be long before bush his takes off his "democratically elected" disguise and begin to show his true "dictator to the core" suit.

it won't be long before even fundies might begin to cry!

it won't be long ... he already started some of it promising to spend the political capital he says he gained to do what his dictator soul longs to do...
it just won't be too long before ...

11. Excellent thread...FINALLY we accept the term as a
Reality. Been saying Fascism for months and worrying about this eventuality for longer than that.

I didn't throw away my bumper stickers et al. My FIRST and FAVORITE sticker says: BUSH-Bringing Facsim into the 21sth Century!
I couldn't get that one off my car so there it is. I'm a little freaked to get too pointed in this message, but I will find ways to spead this message whereever I go. Got a few pins and badges I can wear now and then too.
