"The Christian right in America is the mirror image...
..of the Islamic fundamentalists."

Makes you think. We may be totally ignorant of the truth of the terrorist attacks, the invasion of Iraq and other major foreign issues. It really could be a grand my-god-is-better-than-your-god fight going on here. We just commentate.

4. I so agree with you .....
my first encounter with one of them was during the l980s ... i am still shocked and awed at how they believe and/or support an issue, or idea, based solely on "emotional" capital, refusing to listen to any reason, facts, verifiable truths, etc... and sadly, more recently i have a cousin who voted for bush because ...her "moral values" "value life" and so, she says, she was voting for the man who was "closer to those values." at the same time, she added, "human life is sacred from the time of conception" --then she ended by saying "I know bush is not perfect but there is something about him that tells me he is the one" ... she like bush uses her gut to base her decisions on!

I FELT SO POWERLESS in the face of such an emotional based stance which refutes any sort of evidence or truth to the contrary of her believes or stances... and to top it all she says, "i hope you can understand my point of view without judgment" .....when it seems that she is so in judgment of others who chose any sort of different beliefs from the ones she has that she is even willing to vote for a dictator in chief to the reigns of power in this nation...

3. The "Lifestyle Christians"
Give them their segregatated churches, their Christian Academies, their Christian broadcasters like PAX-TV and CBN, their separate-but-unequal popular music, their political enclaves (featuring sky-high levels of crime and sexual misbehavior), their listings of "Christian Merchants", their rejection of science, and their perversion of everything Christ lives and died for, and you have ... lifestyle of the Lifestyle Christian!

Come back, O Lifestyle Christian! come back to the love and redemption of your Shepherd.

Amen.

5. Correct
That link and the fact that one of the few secular countries in the Middle East (Iraq), was attacked must be a critical part of the discussion going forward.

Further when people in Alabama can still be undecided about segregation, people must start talking about the White Supremist ideologies promoted by the Christian right and their political gurus like John Taylor.

Let me add that where I live we know about elections which were orchestrated by interests in Washington. The files about what went on in Guyana in the 1960s have been declassified and there is much information about Jamaica 1980. It is time for people in the US to study how these things were done since even more sophisticated models appear to have influenced election results in the 'so called model of world democracy'.

8. "Lifestyle Christian"
That is an excellent term for them. They only reason they ever lower themselves to talk to anyone outside their band of lunatics is to try and "save" them.
I have encountered way too many of these people over the years, some in my own family. My sister is like this, but she gave up on trying to convert me a long time ago.

6. you're right . . . but let's be careful who we demonize . . .
the Christian right is no more monolithic than the secular left . . . there's a vast difference between Christian Reconstructionists/Dominionists who want to stone me and others to death and your run-of-the-mill evangelicals whose main concerns are what they see as "family values" . . . in fact, the disparity between these groups is pretty vast, and may be something that can be exploited to help split the Bush-supporting Christian right . . . by pointing out and attacking the positions of the ultra-extremists, we may be able to awaken some of the others a bit and maybe even cause them to re-think their support of BushCo . . . just a thought . . .

7. It's NOT about Christianity
It's about the perversion of Christianity to engineer demographic groups; marketing "lifestyle accessories" and politics can then proceed more efficiently and profitably.

This is the Crusade we need to sign up with. Our Christian brethren have been bamboozled en masse by petty tyrants proclaiming Jesus but promoting Satan -- for fat profits and worldly power.

The Gospels themselves record an incident where Satan offered to make Jesus a deal while Jesus was in the desert fasting. The deal was to gain complete power over the world in exchange for submitting to the Prince of Darkness. And JC basically kicked Satan in the ass.

Every day, thousands of Christians are offered the same deal, but lack the wisdom and support to turn it down. On this past Tuesday, November 2nd, over 50 million people made such a deal with the Devil, and did it in the name of Jesus.
