Talking About Values and God In A Positive Light: Joan of Arcadia
I don't usually feel terribly comfortable talking about God, faith, and values> I largely feel that it is a very personal subject and should be kept that way.

That said, one of my favorite TV shows is Joan of Arcadia, because it manages to provoke a thoughtful discussion on these issues without being offensive. I know a lot of both Christians and secular folks who like the show's thoughtfulness and insight. When I mention that I watch it to a couple of the more involved Christians I know, they're always surprised that a liberal like me would have anything to do with the show. But it's quality TV, and I think the Democratic Party could do far worse than to steal some of the values and ideas that go into the show.

Sure, you're not going to win over the fundys. But we never will. That said, I'm sure that al least 5-10% of those evangelicals are willing to at least listen to us discussing values. And that's worth the effort.

1. I like that show too! And I am a dyed in the wool, very secular, liberal.

2. It's one of my favorites
I never miss it. :D

One of the things I really like about it is that God can be anyone. Did you notice how it's usually someone, who in real life is in the backround? A dog walker, the school custodian, an ER nurse.
Never intrusive, but always there and always helping. I think Goth God is my favorite! :7

3. I'm personally partial
to the cute little girl with the glasses God myself. :)

And isn't Grace such an innovative character?
