The fundies can taste it now!
Friday, I was waiting to pick something up at a small business. They were running some talk show on a religion station. I later found out it was someone sitting in on James Dobson.

The guest was gushing over Bush's re-election and how it seals the deal in getting Roe v. Wade overturned and how we'll see even more "family value" judges appointed in the lower courts.

I wish I could fast-forward to 2008 and see if the fundies really did pursue overturning Roe v. Wade and other issues and whether they succeeded. A part of me says they won't because they love to play the abortion card in the elections to divide and conquer. If Roe v. Wade is overturned, they can't play that card.

3. This should be amusing
I'm taking a Zen approach to this now. I know that my big Blue state would NEVER outlaw abortion. Red States will have to deal with the consequences of no abortion services, no welfare services, etc.

Oh, and I want all my tax money from now on too. I'm tired of subsidizing Red State Maddness.

4. much as I hate to say it...
and I would fight it, but IF they overturned Roe v. Wade before next election, it would put it OFF the table as a wedge issue. Unfortunately, this election has woken me up to the fact that too many people in this country vote on that one issue alone. If it were taken off the table, through no fault of our own, it would make other issues more important again.

Fascists never run out of hate objects - read some history.

18. That's why I think we must never cave
The GOP will find another group to hate before the day is done.

The hatred that they whipped up about gays was absolutely shameful.

23. please don't misunderstand me, mmmmkay?
I'm not saying I want or hope for that, I just think it could happen whether I want it to or not. I'm fully aware of the facsist state, and that we are living in one. Direct your hatred elsewhere....mmmkay? I'm fully aware of history, and your condescending post is just being argumentative and missing my point.

I'm just making the point that IF they succeed in overturning Roe v Wade in the next four years, they will undo their own base's primary motivation to the polls, and perhaps might leave room for us to divide them on other issues. THEN, if we can get back in, we can reinstate it.

Not what I'd hope for, just trying to find something to latch onto in my severe depression over this fascsist regime.

6. I am secretly hoping they overturn Roe v. Wade
There is nothing like getting what you've wanted after wanting it for so long to bring a little taste of reality into your life. Overturning Roe v. Wade would so energize this country - it would be very exciting. Please have the gall to overturn Roe v. Wade - please??

22. We can castrate them while they're in jail as an accomplice
to a crime. Think of the people who would have to go to jail for this. Parents & friends of the girl who she confided in, but they didn't turn her in. There will be a whole lot of people in jail.

It's the one wedge "issue" that keeps the true believing baby-lovers energized. As long as they can wave the bloody fetus the snake handlers will stay in an uproar and distracted.

11. Then let's make them ANGRY that the 'Pukes wont take up their cause!!!!!!!
Let's make this wedge in our direction - I want to put the Repukes on the hot seat - we all know that the party as a whole is pro-life BUT they are NOT anti-abortion! Let's expose them for the frauds that they are as they sleaze the faithful for their votes.

Your post will NOT help our cause - we need to expose them for the frauds that they are. Reactionary's with no plan in our party are WHY we are not in power!!!!!! Please, use your brains, not your guts for a change.

10. That will be the litmus test
How will the "leaders" explain away their failure to dump RvW?

How explain not even trying?

This has to be the best possible opportunity to do it. All it would take is a couple of simple steps. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong in part or in the whole.

One, eliminate the 60% rule in the Senate. Easier done than said, as it happens. I beleive the Senate can vote in that change by a simple majority vote, and while I don't doubt there are a lot of GOP Senators who would puke in the aisles while they voted I don't think there are enough of them with balls to dare go against ShrubCo on that.

Two, remove the Supreme Court's jurisdiction over any questions dealing with abortion

Three, get a couple of anti-choice justices on the SC and we're off to the races.

Once Bush gets two or more votes on the Court, RvW should be gone by the evening news.

Now, even if all this happens, ShrubCo isn't likely to push the issue and you have to ask your fundie friends and acquaintences, and especially Freeperland, why not? Have the simple rubes been played once again by the elite?

Yup. Millions of people voted against their own interests because they thought God wanted them to. What a joker their God is.

19. Intriguing scenario . . . but
there is no way the Senate gets rid of the 60% rule. That rule is too valuable to BOTH parties when they need it--and frankly changing a long-established tradition of the Senate would take some guts--and the willingness and ability to negotiate with the Dems--which I don't think describes our esteemed majority party. Hunting down gay and lesbian teachers, razing old-growth forests, polluting water and air, providing tax breaks to the wealthy, protecting the devils in Saudi Arabia, exploiting the women, Hispanics and blacks in this country--yes--those are things they will do.

And removing the abortion issue from the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court is not possible. Any law passed is subject to judicial review and there are no exceptions under the Constitution. But maybe when the majority starts amending it to discriminate against gays and lesbians, they could slip in a little something on that issue too.

13. I grew up in a Fundie household
Bush doesn't realize he's got a huge tiger by the tail. They will be expecting big things from Bush in return for winning the election fot him. Many of the things they are going to insist on will make non-Fundie's gag (e.g., allowing churches to endorse and work for candidates, manditory prayer in schools, ten commandments posted in public places, no rights or protections for gays, school vouchers and an end to public schools, a law that says creationism must be taught along with evolution).

This could be a blessing in disguise.

15. What We Need Right Now
In order to diffuse the right-wing propaganda machine for good, we need pictures of people like James Dobson, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity in a motel room with any of teh following:

One or more prostitutes
A Boy Scout Troop (all naked)
A goat

:-)

17. The Anti-Abortion Forces Are Energized

I live in Minneapolis and almost daily walk past a Planned Parenthood office, where women can recieve, among other things, abortion couseling. Usually there is one or two Right-to-Life people standing quietly outside, reading a book. The day after the election was conceded by Kerry, there was a huge and noisy crowd outside the clinic, chanting and being obnoxious.

The battle has been engaged, folks. Roe v. Wade is in great peril these next two years. The Repugs see this as a window before the midterm elections, as Iraq turns into a pile of shit before the eyes of the world...

of how much power the fundamentalists really have in the party.

I think the dynamic in the Republican Party has shifted in the last 10 years or so. They've become completely dependent on the fundamentalists- and largely infiltrated by them.

It's very possible that they will move to reverse Roe vs. Wade, in my humble opinion.
