Don't attack DUers that post corporate media threads!
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 12:11 PM by senseandsensibility
They're doing all of us who can't stand to watch and/or are boycotting a favor!! I am boycotting, and yet I don't want to be ignorant of their biased shilling for *. Ignorance is not strength. If there are a few DUers who are strong enough to deal with this crap, and to share it with us, they deserve our THANKS, not criticism.

I've seen a few posts lately where well meaning DUers have alerted us to the latest propaganda put out by CNN et al, and others have berated them, telling them to stop watching. Yet if we all stopped watching, we would become an echo chamber, and worse, we would not be aware of our enemies' (for the media is our enemy) actions. I fail to see how this can make us stronger.

Thanks to the posters with the iron stomachs who can actually watch this swill. I, for one, appreciate it.

1. ONLY if they don't post things that make us wanna watch.
It's built to be entertainment, a distraction, a temptation. Every post that makes people flick on the ol' idiot box is inflating their ratings a bit.

4. Another alternative for those who don't make this a part of their daily
routing already is to bookmark Media Matters for America and make visiting that site a daily a part of your routine. You can get the latest bullshit propoganda without tuning in to see it for yourself. It is the closest thing to holding "journalists" feet to the fire.

I do agree with your post however. Those who are keeping us informed of the latest BS from cable news are brave souls and don't deserve to be ridiculed.

5. here, here!!
I haven't the stomach for TV at all. It is like watching a train-wreck. We need to work on the media, investing in a network of radio/tv stations that we can bear listening to. george soros are you listening......? hell, I will send in $100.00 towards it, that is what I gave John Kerry. I am going to quit working on stupid things and get out for the dems whenever i can. Lets get to work.

6. I appreciate it myself.

I never watch but a few seconds before I change channels. So I like to hear whats going on too.

I live with someone who is apolitical and has zero tolerance of anything in a suit talking politics. I think this is healthy for me with todays media.

7. Exactly!
These people are performing a service, and I try to thank them whenever I can. But I'm worried that they will stop posting, because others give them grief.

8. An echo chamber
Well damn, maybe when Democrats realize that we have to get on the same page, we'll start winning again. And if you think you're getting any real news from the lie box, you're kidding yourself. Read some newspapers online to be informed, and I imagine you'll still get plenty of lies and distortions to keep up with what the enemy is doing. Turn the damned lie box off.

9. Don't forget what the bible says about it:

"For by your own words you will be justified, and BY YOUR OWN WORDS YOU WILL BE CONDEMNED." Matthew 12:37

I say let the corp. media condemn themselves, and if I can assist in any way, so be it. We can't help the process along if we don't read them.

11. Sometimes I feel I get a bit of flak for posting NYT, WP, LAT --
I post these items for two reasons: 1. The political articles, especially, are often unfair, and way off the mark, but educated, influential people get their news from these publications. I think it's valuable to see what's being published, and read. 2. If not for our print press, and newspapers like these, many stories exposing the Bush cabal would never have seen the light of day. Amid the chaff, there is still some excellent journalism being practiced at these papers -- as opposed to TV news, which rarely practices decent journalism. But I applaud those who watch, and report on, TV news, because that's where most of America gets its news, if it gets any at all.

12. Great points
TV news is essentially worthless and worse, it's heavily slanted towards repukes. That's a given, and that's why I boycott. But how will anyone from our side know how to counter these stories from the corporate media if we don't even know what they are?
