A boycott idea
I've read a few threads about starving the beast and I think it is a great idea. Believe me the christian right uses this tactic often and so should we. But to be the most effective, I wonder if we should target a specific big name republican supporting retail outlet for the holiday season, and let them know about it even see if we could get some press on it. They could really feel our buying power in a big way. What do you think and who do you think of it and who should it be?

Or is this a stupid idea?

Sorry if this has been talked about before, this board moves so fast sometimes I can't keep up with it!

2. The Big Kahuna: Wal-Mart
I can't think of a better place to start than the mom-and-pop store-bankrupting, slave labor-using, employee-cheating, fundie-pandering, female-suppressing, union-hating megalith that is Wal-Mart. How does Wal-Mart piss me off? Let me count the ways! I can't think of a better target for our indignation than Wal-Mart.

One problem is that in some rural areas they have driven out the competition and are the only place folks can shop.

4. Lots of People in Rural Areas Have Computers
They can buy big-ticket items from Costco online. If a rural area has a Wal-Mart, they almost certainly also have a Dollar General Store or somesuch discount store where they can purchase sundries. A large part of the rural population couldn't care less about our boycotting efforts - and would probably go out of their way to buy at Wal-Mart and other exploitative retailers once they discovered we were boycotting them.

5. That's what I think too. Concentrate on the suburban Wal-Marts.
That's where the most damage could be done. Now, the next question is: How do we get the word out? Especially to people without computers?

6. Flyers Under Windshield Wipers in the Parking Lot?

I don't even know if it's legal. My local Wal-Mart has roving Wackenhut security patrols day & night in the parking lot.
