2. Indeed. Hate is the vertebrae that holds a fundie's spine upright.
Without hate, they would all collapse into the steaming pile of protoplasmic antimatter that they are.

4. My husband the Libertarian (corporate) attorney says
the bans that included Civil Unions will not stand, even a "conservative" SCOTUS.

As I understand it there were ammendments among the 11 that were just Marriage and some that were Marriage AND Civil Unions.

I will fight for the Civil Rights, i.e. protection from discrimination, of ALL Americans.

What I don't understand is :
Even though I think we should talk about moral values, I like the position that people who want to talk about Marriage should talk to the Churches. So how do we do both of these things?

6. except Oregon
My understanding from the local paper in Oregon is that civil unions
look safe.

The rest ban civil unions.

7. Wow! That's SO over the top!!!
Even when you could give some concession on something, they INSIST on taking it ALL!

I wonder if there isn't an instinctual fear that anyone who breaks the sexual orientation taboo is essentially uncontrollable, and therefore not to be counted on when "we" have war feaver again, and again, and again, and again . . . . .

8. I know the one that passed in Michigan
is one of the most restrictive, meaning it bars civil unions as well.

9. This is their issue folks.
In my state (Georgia) the amendment was written with part A. The states Constitution shall be amended to define marriage as only between a man and a woman. And part B. The state shall not recognize any civil union from any other state. This is not the exact wording of the amendment but you get the gist. Only part A was listed on the ballot. It is unconstitutional in the state of Georgia to have two initiatives on the same amendment so it will be struck down by the state supreme court just like it was in Louisiana. The lawmakers had to know this when they did it. This allows the public to get all riled up again for the midterm elections. I have no doubt that this issue will appear again in 2006 and/or 2008.

10. So how do we talk about Religion/Morals AND differentiate between
Civil Unions and Marriage by saying that Marriage is in the pervue of the churches.

See? If we are going to talk about the morality of war, or Choice, or Child Left Behind or anything, then we have to have something to say about the morality of marriage don't we?

Maybe we should differentiate between Religion and Morality, with morality being open ground for any terminology (like whether Marriage is what you call the union between any two persons), and religion being discussed in light of the religion relevant to the circumstances.

I'm confused about how to go about this, and it is important not to make the "crazies" (whoever they are) crazier.
