My new policy about donations to dem candidates
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 05:04 PM by LTRS
My household donated approximately $20K dollars during the last election cycle to dem candidates and the party. This has gotten me dinner with Terry M, and private, extended conversations with many candidates, including John Edwards.

During the conversations (to most anyway) I have brought up my concerns about the integrity of our election system. And unfortunately, I never got the sense that any of them were taking it seriously enough.

And now I still don't see any well known standard bearers for our party speaking up about it, despite the many, many so called "glitches" that have been discovered and always seem to be in Bush's favor.

So, my new policy is I won't donate money to dem candidates until they address this problem. This is the third election with electronic voting system where errors have been found. God knows how many haven't been found. And still the problem is not being addressed by our leaders.

No sense in my wasting my money on democrats campaigns if they are simply going to let the elections be stolen from them. Fix it, or don't call me for a donation. That's it. No surrender from me!

Edit: spelling (hate when I do that!)

3. Excellent idea....
Send the DNC voided checks.... Tell them you will send real ones once this is addressed.

Of course, without money...how can they work on this...and without being able to work on it, how do they get money?

6. That's what the GAO is for
If the democratic party feels the desire to work on it independently more power to them - let them set up a separate fund for it, just like they did the legal fund. I will gladly contribute to that.

8. Here, here. I'm with you all the way. If they don't see how big
this problem is, then they don't deserve to be elected to anything, if they do see it and ignore it, then I'm the stupid one for donating. Fool me once......

11. Dean isn't running for anything
I am happy to donate to his candidates if they pledge to or have done something about the election system here. Let's just hope and pray that they move a bit faster and more vigorously on this than they have on equal rights. It's been 25 yrs and I am still waiting for them to put their money where their mouth is on that.

10. Do they know that this is your new policy? It might have more effect
if you contact those you have supported at this time and inform them of your decision. Perhaps it would help with lighting the fire that everyone is trying to get started under these lazy, scared politicians.

13. How about an organized donors movement to
really get their attention? Do you know any other large donors who feel this way who may be able to do likewise?

14. Some - I'll talk to those I know
... but of course this will probably be considered sacrilege to some of these people. You'd be surprised how many reliable check writers pay so little attention to the actual issues. They just know they are dems and that is good enough.

15. Maybe we could get some involvement with small donors.
How many people would like to ask for their donations to be returned to them until they get their money's worth. Can PAC contributions be withheld? How about 527s, or is it too late for them? It has been impossible for the rank and file to get the politos attention on issues of importance the last few years. It makes sense to whack em where it hurts.

22. I agree, and every politician...
...I've talked to here on a local level, just gives me a blank stare whenever I bring this up, and I've been bringing it up since the 2000 elections. I almost feel like they know it, but are trying to play dumb, and I'm just not going to buy that anymore.
