Quick...What restaurants donate to dems??
We were going to go out to Outback tonight until I checked the followyourmoney.com site and found out they donate over 90% to Republicans. I can't find any other information. Does anyone know?

5. Oh. I also just found out Phillip Morris
is 7th largest contributor to Repubs. I'm a seriously addicted smoker.

I have one more major reason to quit now.

4. Fuel Pizza
It's a Charlotte, NC chain, but they have headquarters in NY and I think that they have a branch in Las Vegas. Great pizza and terrific funky realistic 60's garage decor.

9. Too bad about Outback
I love them too. But, they're off my list now. If we can't make these little sacrifices, how can we take the bigger steps that'll be necessary? I commend you for your dedication.

I'd like to hear about some good alternatives myself....

12. The food is better anyway!
I love going to authentic ethnic restaurants, especially the ones located in neighborhoods of similar ethnicity and patronized by the neighbors.

13. How to research restaurants (and other businesses)
Go to www.opensecrets.org. From there, you can use the search engine to find out which restaurant owners give to which candidates.

14. where do you live?
You've got to forget the chains. Yikes. Outback. What a thought anyway.

For your local restaurants, put the name of owner/executive chef in opensecrets.org look-up page:

http://www.opensecrets.org/indivs/index.asp

If they give more than $250 to a political campaign, it should be in there.

22. I'm dying here! What a shock.
Who would have expected this infamy? I'm so sorry to hear it.

Thanks for the news, hippywife.

What a low blow: Republicans owning great, convenient restaurants.

This thread is an even better idea if people start pitching in good REPLACEMENT restaurant names!

the only one I can think of is Sonic and I really don't like their burgers. I stop for their fruit slushes and an occassional sin...a corn dog sometimes! }(

I love Carrabba's mussels on the appetizer menu and the Pollo Rosa Maria is to die for!

24. Thanks HandPuppet...the fact that Hooters supports Repukes...
it is a pretty clear illustration of how corporations benefit from Repuke rule. No wonder they go after Howard Stern, but never say a word about Hooters.

18. Why would a company give nearly equal amounts to both parties....
I just went to that site and clicked on SBC, my phone company, and they give repugnants 55%/dems 46%. Why would they even bother giving to dems if they supported repugnants? Does it have to do with differing opinions within the companies? Forgive me for being green in this subject.

20. They are hedging their bets if their "less favorite" team wins. That way
their lobbyists can still get a seat at the table.

Looks like they won't have to worry about "hedging their bets" anymore with the Dieboldization of American elections.

26. Read "Fast Food Nation" by Eric Schlosser. . .
and you'll find a very, very disturbing reason why restaurant chain corporations are giving big to the Republicans. They don't want any regulations that can guarantee food safety for us. They'd rather us be in a world of Sinclair's "Jungle" all over again, and they even attempted to weaken the "Organic Food" regulations just this year, and won't be surprised if they try again within the next two years.

30. Their common remark concerning regulation even for things like food
is that the market will tell business when it's time to change. That means they would obviously move downward in responsibility to the public in order to keep their profits moving upward.

What a disturbing thought, indeed. Restaurants writing their own rules simply because they pay their Congressmen to "fix" things for them.

27. Here's a site for people with some time on their hands
There are 242 individual pages to go through. I'm up to page #9, and discovered that some Applebee's restaurants donated to LaRouche!

http://www.campaignmoney.com/finance.asp?pg=9&type=io&criteria=restaurant&prevpage=8&cycle=04

A page or two before getting to #9, I saw a Thai or Cambodian restaurant which gave to Clark! There's an irritating wait between pages.

This is going to be TIME CONSUMING, but it looks interesting, for anyone who's up to the challenge! They are listed alphabetically by businesses' names, here's the start:
