call your Republican Senator to oppose Arlen Specter
we need a right wing freak in that chair

the more right wingers in power, the more the moderate Republicans will realize it's not their party anymore

1. Let's not take sides in this battle.
Either way we could screw ourselves. Lets let the republicans fight it out and worry about ourselves.

5. I agree, the extreme republicans have their own set of values and logic..
...which totally defy a sane way of thinking

6. Besides, Arlen may be a restraint compared to more radical Republicans
As you say, best not pursue Republican stalking horses or fight their battles for them. Encourage them to widen their fault lines instead. If there were not a duopoly in American politics, the Republicans would be spread over at least three parties.

2. Then I would feel like I am doing the work of the fundies
and I don't want to do their dirty work at all.

The republicans can have their own battle. I am more content to sit back and watch them unfold and start to eat their own.

9. You didnt suggest encouraging the battle, you suggested taking a side.
Convince us that taking one side is in our best interest. I can see scenarios for both sides winning this battle that are bad and good for us.

11. There has to be a better way to encourage the battle

without helping those I truly despise.

I am all for encouraging the battle. I am just not going to assist those religious nuts in the process. They need massive opposition rather then support.

7. Blue, blue my senators are blue!

My senators are Durbin and Obama....a bright ray of hope in a dismal sea of red.

Cheers,
Kim :toast:

12. Arlen Spector today said he is opposed to abortion
on a personal level, on CNN. While he didn't repudiate his view that a woman should have a right to choose as a matter of law, I already sense his willingness to backtrack in order to save his political career. I never underestimate the willingness of professional politicians to sell out when the chips are down.
