Why do we take it?
Why does America put up with it? I don’t mean us here at DU – I think most of us are working for change at many levels. I’m talking about everyone else, the complacent masses who just take everything * throws at them, accepts it either blindly or with resignation and then trudges back to their daily lives.

This was best exemplified for me last night when I flipped from Letterman to Jay Leno, knowing Hillary was going to be on. Leno said, “I understand the US is helping Iraq write a Constitution. Why don’t we just give them ours? Its clear we’re not using it anymore”.

The audience went nuts. No explanation needed. Yet still, * and Asscrack and the rest of the not so merry band of thieves continue to score well in opinion polling. What is wrong with this picture? Why is the public letting them off for free?

1. Inertia. my friend, inertia.
Besides, once you admit something is wrong, you might actually be bothered enough to try to fix it. Who needs the hassle? Better to live in denial, pretend it's a joke.

2. maybe "we" won't
I've talked to enough people to be both pissed and happy. Some I never expected to have an opinion or notice don't like Bush while some I expected of not caring or thinking he's doing a good job fall in line as thougt. point is though, I was surprised a few times.

Election '04 is soooo important, I really can't stress that enough

3. the election in '04 may be irrelevant
If we don't attack this electronic voting machine problem.

This is HUGE. It may not matter who gets the most votes.

After what happened in Nebraska and Georgia, the whole situation is as suspicious as lipstick on a collar.
