1. I'm having an Animal Farm experience
where I'm looking in and seeing the pigs partying with farmers and capitalists, all dressed alike and impossible to tell apart.

And the book ends there.

Just the current perception, open to correction.

3. The breaking point in Orwell
wasn't there. Just defeat and worse. Not to be glum, but that was the book and the experience of a lot of people throughout history. If we expect Hollywood happy endings in 2hours when the good guy does his thing against insurmountable odds...

Well, Tolkien was in the Great War. Real life is nothing like his books and he knew it, especially when it came to moral clarity. Damn well any human engaged in conflict would use the Ring and there is no glory.
