One week in, the San Antonio Express-News runs an editorial regarding the debt ceiling. Guess who they endorsed in 2000 & 2004?
This situation confronts Washington as President Bush's calls for permanent tax cuts and billions in additional spending for the Iraq war loom in the coming months. Bush also announced last week that he has a plan to cut the deficit in half.
It's hard to imagine enough economic growth to overcome the difference between federal spending and revenues anytime soon, even without additional tax cuts.

Dear Editor, Just a few short weeks ago, your Editorial Board endorsed Mr. Bush for re-election. Last week, you got your wish. And only one week later you're concerned about the need to raise the debt ceiling because of this Administration's uncontrolled spending? Mr. Bush paid no attention to it during his first four years in office. What led you to believe he would do anything different after the election? Didn't you hear the "mandate" of the people? It's more important to ban abortion & gay marriage than it is to balance the budget & keep our economy going.
