Nevertheless, killing a Senator who was investigating them for fraud would be risky, it would directly raise suspicion in a way the press could hardly ignore. They would be at some risk of getting caught.

The neo-cons had considered attacking Iran before the election, but they seem to have realized that could backfire. They've gone so far with disasterous results that they have gotten themselves on thin ice.

Meanwhile, the rest of the world is fighting back economically, dumping their dollars, boycotting American goods, etc.
