dKOS: Ohio provisional ballots
A poster on dKOS reported that they have began to count provisional ballots in Ohio, and Bush's lead has now narrowed to 70,000 votes from 130,000. Also, preliminary reports as to absentee ballots have been favoring Kerry slightly. While Kerry is unlikely to pick up much ground on absentees, the fact that Bush isn't gaining anything back is heartening.

We may have a chance to win this election without evidence of fraud. If Kerry gets close enough with provisional ballots, we can force a manditory recount. We will win with a manditory recount, as many of the punch cards not accepted by the machines are from minority presincts, and there are about 90,000 of these. Although this is still far from guarunteed, it is getting more likely by the day. The fact that military ballots could favor Kerry now is also sign for hope.

I think we are better off demanding a recount in Ohio than focusing on all this circumstantial Florida crap. Florida is a red herring. Ohio is where this election will be won.

1. Losing candidate is the one who needs to request a recount.
If Kerry doesn't want one, how are we going to get a recount?

21. Kerry doesn't have to be the one
I've posted this on Blackboxvoting.org and I've posted it several places on DU:

http://www.electionline.org/site/docs/html/recount_provisions_-_part_1.htm

Ohio (as of 2001)-

The trigger for an AUTOMATIC recount:
Margin equal to or less than 0.25% for statewide office, 0.5% for other offices.

Requested Recounts Permitted:
ANY candidate not declared elected may file for a recount, AND ANY GROUP OF FIVE OR MORE ELECTORS REGARDING ANY QUESTION OR ISSUE.

If it's not strictly a recount for president, may not matter. Problems in the vote counting accuracy are a red flag.

8. David Cobb of the green party is requesting a recount.
of course, he doesn't have the money to pay for one. We need to put pressure on Kerry and the Dems. Recount in Ohio!!

13. Nadar didn't have the money either.
And escrow account was opened up for him and people donated the funds for the recount. In Ohio he needed 80K deposit for the recount.

I thought the libertarian was going to do it. Haven't heard anything lately. But surely Bev Harris is working on this angle. I'm expecting to hear any momment that someone is taking money for a recount in Ohio.

5. If we win it with just a recounted Ohio, an electoral vote win only,
then you can expect fighting in the streets. The nutbags on the right will lose it.

We must expose as much of the fraud as we can.

10. That's true.
Sure looks like whoever said that Bush's lead is shrinking because of provisional ballots wasn't telling the truth.

12. That's what I thought too
I'll admit it's just hearsay. And I can't find the link.

Whatever the case, I still think we have a shot at winning without an investigation in Ohio.

11. We may only have hope and a prayer here.
but faith can move mountains.

We can only hope the provisionals and absentees make it a virtual dead heat. Only then will this reach critical mass and force them to request a recount

It's also true that the closer it gets, the more the claims of a mandate become illegitimate. If nothing else, it could slow down the right wing legislative agenda they're drooling over and maybe give Dems in Congess some backbone. Again we can only hope and pray.

Did someone mention repubs protesting in the streets. I thought they were happy with the process. What's that you say? Only if they win? Say it ain't so. Now I'm upset.

God Bless America. We're going to need it.

14. Do both...
In fact I think we need to examine the vote all over the states... I do not believe the Popular Vote numbers.

20. The magical number in Ohio is 0.25%
which is like 19,000 votes. I think we can do it!

18. Florida
If that is accurate I would be one VERY happy Democrat.. I would get the chance to tell all the RW's to take their "mandate" and shove it up their ass ;)

You're right about Florida, I am a Florida resident I spent over 3 hours doing research the day before yesterday on voter trends. These counties really are Dixiecrats. Most of them voted for Bush 4 years ago and either for Dole or BARELY for Clinton in 96'
