The answer is so simple (Gay marriage and other things don't matter)
All of the College, Masters PHD types in the Democratic Party may not think this is so but, to my simple little high-school educated brain it makes all the sense in the world.

We lost the election because once again we forget where we come from. It is rather simple, we (Democrats) start with a populist message and very quickly we are knocked off stride when the press and the Republicans call it CLASS WARFARE. Fuck it fight class warfare, they fight morals warfare every election and then do what ever they want when they win.

People, I don't care what you call it, it is the base of the party and the base of the country and when we go off the well worn path and take the Republican bait of Gay Marriage, Flag Burning, Abortion, Guns whatever stupid divisive issue we let them dictate to us, we loose. It is that simple, we loose.

The C+ Augustus is able to say what ever he wants (think Civil Union on GMA just before the election) and his right gives him the pass to do what ever he wants. They realize that once elected he will do what they want. Our left is never that pragmatic.

It is really quite simple, the democratic party needs to stand for something and that something is Economic Populism, A progressive tax code, one that is fair to all. That is where we need to draw the line in the sand. If they start to tinker with the Tax Code than we hit them and we hit them again and again. Expose them for what they are the party of the haves, the ownership society, the royalty. They do not represent the great majority of us and we need to point that out instead of Fuck all the little side issues. We will do the right thing on them but we need to fing what we stand for and fast.

My point really is this....... The little shit(wedge issues) will work themselves out if when we are once again in control, look at what was done with Civil Rights and the was on poverty in the 60's.

1. and the re-regulation of corporations . . .
as it stands, corporations now have more power that virtually any government anywhere, including ours . . . it's time to return the power to the people by clamping down on corporations and forcing them to be good citizens -- economically, socially, environmentally, and every other way . . . because they sure as hell aren't going to do it on their own . . . and right now their power is being used to benefit their CEOs and stockholders to the detriment of everyone else . . .

3. I agree with economic populism as the main plank of our platform.
That's why we need to ensure that gays cannot be deprived of their jobs on the basis of sexual orientation. That's why we need to ensure that gay couples are permitted to join in civil unions in order to receive the same state-guaranteed spousal benefits as straight couples. Those are both economic issues that also address our essential Democratic plank of equal rights among all Americans.
