1. Why the switch from Vonnegut to Steinbeck?
Just curious.

2. Well, Orwell.....
(LOL) Loving the antihero as I do, I couldn't decide between Heller's Yossarian and Tom's Grapes....

The pacifistic time slipping nature of dear Billy is beginning to fade. It's all to be expected if you give Billy another hundred pages.

(apologies to Kurt, who I love)

3. Vonnegut is one of my heroes
I considered the Black Fuhrer of Harlem as a nickname, but people just wouldn't get it, so I went with one of my other favorites.

I have to confess, I hated Grapes when forced to read it in high school. I found the endless descriptions of the dust interminable. Loved Of Mice and Men though.

It is wonderful for anyone to even have an opinion on literature.

5. Is there a literature subforum in the Lounge?
Maybe we should get really ambitious and start a book club.

Right now I'm reading Wealth and Democracy by Kevin Phillips (fascinating and depressing, but a very dry read), A Traitor to Memory by Elizabeth George (mystery novel, seems good so far), and The Best Democrary Money Can Buy by Greg Palast (it's so good I can't wait it finish it so I can loan it to my friends, but, as you can imagine, my progress is very slow when I'm trying to read three at a time).

8. Somewhere, anyway ...
I am a big fan of Faulkner. Enough said. Somewhere out there, among the literate, are a few fans of the Snopes. Maybe we should have a General Literature forum. Eh? I would love it.

9. Remember this?
Poppy sent Scowcroft to clink champagne toasts with the murderers of Tiananmen. That was just a couple of weeks after the massacre. The visit proved to me the BFEE is global and they love totalitarians -- fascistic or communistic. Doesn't matter. They just want to control people abroad and We the People at home. Here's one guy they couldn't control...

His name may be Otter, but no one likes to fly with him.
