What do you do with a fundy mother who sends you this garbage?
Did you know?

1 The garden of Eden was in Iraq.

2. Mesopotamia, which is now Iraq, was the cradle of civilization!

3. Noah built the ark in Iraq.

4. The Tower of Babel was in Iraq

5. Abraham was from Ur, which is in Southern Iraq!

6. Isaac's wife Rebekah is from Nahor, which is in Iraq.

7. Jacob met Rachel in Iraq.

8. Jonah preached in Nineveh - which is in Iraq.

9. Assyria, which is in Iraq, conquered the ten tribes of Israel.

10. Amos cried out in Iraq!

11. Babylon, which is in Iraq, destroyed Jerusalem.

12. Daniel was in the lion's den in Iraq!

13. The three Hebrew children were in the fire in Iraq (Jesus had been in Iraq also as the fourth person in the fiery furnace!)

14. Belshazzar, the King of Babylon saw the "writing on the wall" in Iraq.

15. Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, carried the Jews captive into Iraq.

16. Ezekiel preached in Iraq.

17. The wise men were from Iraq.

18. Peter preached in Iraq.

19. The "Empire of Man" described in Revelation is called Babylon, which was a city in Iraq!

And you have probably seen this one. Israel is the nation most often mentioned in the Bible. But do you know which nation is second? It is Iraq! However, that is not the name that is used in the Bible. The names used in the Bible are Babylon, Land of Shinar, and Mesopotamia. The word Mesopotamia means between the two rivers, more exactly between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. The name Iraq, means country with deep roots.

Indeed Iraq is a country with deep roots and is a very significant country in the Bible.

No other nation, except Israel, has more history and prophecy associated

it than Iraq.

And also... This is something to think about! Since America is typically

represented by an eagle. Saddam should have read up on his Muslim passages...

The following verse is from the Koran, (the Islamic Bible)

Koran (9:11) - For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace.

(Note the verse number!) Hmmmmmmm?!

8. Ask her who all the people are she's talking about.
Act like you are serious. Ask her to give you a rundown of the story of each of those people she names. When she does, ask more questions, ask for more details.

Ask how they know those places are in present-day Iraq. Ask for citations and a bibliography. Be relentless.

She'll never send you shit like that again. Promise.

I send her the debunk. I'm thinking of sending her this:

Fundamentalist Christi-Insanity: DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that I think your religion is evil? Most fundamentalist Christians are supporting a war that is killing thousands upon thousands of innocent men, women and children--people who would be alive today if your homicidal idiot of a president hadn't lied us into war. You're a hypocrite if you support this war. Jesus would never have declared war on these people. Shame on you!

Want reality? Why don't you look at some of the 100,000+ people your idiot son of an asshole has killed and maimed, almost half of them children:

I'm sticking in pictures here. I'm sick of this shit. I'm sick of feeling dependent on her because I'm disabled, too. God, I hate this shit.

And any other such sites you find credible. Err... as if they seem credible.

Keep bible stuff in the forefront,

Daniel 7: 7-8 “After that, in my vision at night I looked, and there before me was a fourth beast- terrifying and frightening and very powerful. It had large iron teeth; it crushed and devoured its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different from all the former beasts, and it had ten horns. While I was thinking about the horns, there before me was another horn, a little one, which came up among them; and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth that spoke boastfully.”

Daniel 8: 1-17 "In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared unto me, even unto me Daniel, after that which appeared unto me at the first. 2 And I saw in a vision; and it came to pass, when I saw, that I was at Shushan in the palace, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in a vision, and I was by the river of Ulai. 3 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last. 4 I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great. 5 And as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes. 6 And he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had seen standing before the river, and ran unto him in the fury of his power. 7 And I saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with choler against him, and smote the ram, and brake his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and stamped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand. 8 Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven. 9 And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land. 10 And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them. 11 Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of the sanctuary was cast down. 12 And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered. 13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? 14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed. 15 And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man. 16 And I heard a man's voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision. "

93. Ladyhawk are we sisters?
My mother is the same and we are in the same position. I have a great education and worked at some great jobs but had numerous breakdowns and had to go on disability. Of course with the money SSD gives me I would be able to afford a nice grocery store cart. So I get a lot of help from my family - my mother. My monthly medications cost MORE than my SSD benefits!

So I have to depend on "Momma Warbucks", (actually I do have a trust fund but SHE controls it!) I don't blame you at all for sending your mother a letter like that. I have done it too and I end up feeling much better, (after I get over the guilt :P ) She used it to control me for a long time but I am getting stronger and am refusing to put up with her.

My mother takes great care to delete all the addresses when she forwards me anything now but I have gotten a large collection of them - courtesy of her. I use these emails to send out some reality based information. And I LOVE finding out the truth about these stupid forwards and sending them back!

13. My mother-in-law sent this to Mr. Nownow.
She knew I'd never have read it -- Mozilla Mail had already determined, from all the stupid garbage with forty 'FW:FW:FW' headers she'd forwarded yet again to me that her mail was spam, and I never took it out of the spam filter.

He called her on the phone and groused at her about sending him ignorant crap, and they didn't speak to each other for several weeks. I've finally just told him do what he feels is right about her, he's her only child and she's alone. I can't tell him to do what he keeps threatening to do, which is just tell her he's tired of having to have his nose rubbed in how willfully misinformed she is, and he no longer wants to deal with her.

He gets over it, and we laugh about her when we're alone because she is woefully misinformed, and that's about all there really is to do about it, I'm afraid.

My mom's a Dem. Mr. Nownow has asked me if she'd adopt him. I told him he had to ask her himself.

She didn't much like it and now she's upset with me. LoganPV, it isn't your fault. :) I chose to send it. I also added a part about sending some "easily-debunked fiction" of my own. Um, that didn't go over well. I probably shouldn't have sent it. :(

What pissed me off is that the e-mail seems to be a fundy way to cheer on the war: "Look at what we're liberatin'! Yee-haw! Good for us!"

I've looked at one too many pictures of dead kids, so the dumbass e-mail didn't sit well with me. :( We're killing real people over there, dammit!

Here's my last message:

Mom,

Let me tell you why I am so angry. Do you know what else is in Iraq? 100,000+ dead Iraqis.

I feel strongly that American fundamentalist Christians are not practicing what Christ taught. He taught his followers to turn the other cheek and to follow the spirit, not the letter, of the law. Today's right-wing fundamentalist Christians support a bloody war that is killing hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, more than Saddam ever did in his wildest dreams. At least 40,000 of the dead are children. And there is no end in sight. I see today's fundamentalists as the Pharisees of Christ's day. They don't care about what Christ said. They don't want to feed the poor or turn the other cheek. Instead, they want tax cuts and to bomb the hell out of a country that never did anything to them.

Who would Jesus bomb?

Jesus would never have condoned this war. He would have seen Bush's lies for what they were. He would not have unleashed the might of the United States Armed Forces on a defenseless nation. Can you imagine Jesus cluster-bombing a village or city? I can't. Can you imagine him riding a tank through Fallujah, leveling the place? I can't. In fact, I don't see how right-wing Christianity reflects the ideals of Christ at all.

Matt 5:44 "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you."

The Iraqis are our neighbors, not our enemies. If even our enemies deserve blessing, then so do the Iraqis.

I've read what Iraqis have said online. The news media will never tell you the truth. The "insurgents" are fighting for their freedom. They don't want this occupation. They say they are much worse off than they were under Saddam. The electricity is still unreliable. The water is undrinkable. They are dying by the thousands. Yet all the United States wants to secure is the oil supply. They didn't even secure known weapons of destruction, let alone the fictional weapons of mass destruction given as the excuse for going to war. Bush knowingly lied. And people die by the thousands.

That cutesy thing you sent me was right-wing fundamentalist propaganda designed to support the war in Iraq: "Here, look! See what we're 'liberating'?"

We are only liberating them from their lives. Many Iraqis say, "At least under Saddam we had security and did not have to worry about bombs dropping on our heads." Fox News is lying to you. The Iraqis are not glad we are there.

Have you looked at the casualties? The media whitewashes the truth. Fox News tells the "faithful" only what they want to hear. And they are so willfully ignorant, they do not seek the truth. As Barbara Bush said, "Why should I trouble my 'beautiful mind' with war casualties?" Sickening. The Iraqis have no choice but to trouble their minds with this violent, bloody occupation we have thrust upon them. We are creating enemies faster than we can destroy them.

Would you love the Americans if they did this to you? No one who supports this war can honestly call themselves "Christians." For doing so to others is about as un-Christlike as you can get.

Be nice to her. In time she will find out the truth. Mine saw bunnie rabbits turn into birdies. Michael Jackson lived in the house behind the nursing home. Before she passed away she was really mad at me because I would not confront my brother who stole her blind (been warning her for years). I think she forgave me in the end when I fed her. She passed away two days later.

Look at it this way you turned out OK. We have to put up with our Moms and Dads. I expect my kids to put up with me someday.

73. I'm sending you an electronic hug, Ladyhawk!

I love my parents deeply but just cannot comprehend their twisted view of politics and morality. I blame their TV viewing habits for much of the strain that has developed in our relationship. They are big FOX news watchers, and especially LOVE Bill O'Reilly, they also tune in to Pat Robertson and watch a local RW wacko by the name of Fred Honnsberger.

It breaks my heart, but my husband and I are planning to minimize our contact with the RW elements on both sides of our family. We have politely changed the subject for years now when they have made hateful and uninformed political remarks, in the interest of maintaining family peace. I can't do it any longer.

More than once I swore to my wife I was not going back to see her. She could be manipulative, vindictive, destructive, and a bigot. On another level she cared about me and my family just had a hard time expressing it.

I know what your mother is sending you is total crap. Parents can really hurt their children. Speaking for myself now that it is over I have never regretted seeing her. I still have a lot of anger, but I understand it now.

In her own way your mother is trying to tell you she cares. It also helped me to stay away when it was hard to take. This is hard to handle, I wish you the best.

23. Wow. That changes my whole life...
Truly, I have always been convinced that the bible story about the Tower of Babel really, actually occurred -- that thousands of people were suddenly stricken with different foreign languages as a punishment for being haughty enough to attempt to build a tower to rival God.

How else would you explain all the world languages? Perhaps one of those piles of rubble we see on TV is the remains of the Tower itself and not the result of a US bombing of a clinic?

I especially like the superstitious nonsense at the bottom, and the complete suspension of skepticism that is needed to buy into that last Koran verse and its coincidental reference numbers. It changes my whole view on that godforsaken war, you know. Soar like an Eagle!

Thank your mother for changing my life.

Now...what is the moral here? Does she want me to read the Bible... or the Koran? Both are referenced.

Seriously, I have always loved Jesus. It's his followers I can't stand.

...I'd tell her that she's right. Iraq is an EXTREMELY important region historically and pre-historically. So much of everything we have today comes from the region.

Baghdad had public street lights when London was a tiny fishing village.

But the Quran verse is wrong, as other people have pointed out, so whats the point of the email?

Iraq was important historically and biblically? sure...so why are we bombing the hell out of it.

35. This is going to be hard -- but you need to divorce your mother
It sounds like you have a toxic parent who is harmful to your mental health.

My mother is a hard core fundie who desperately tried to convert me to her wacky fundie belief. Every time she'd call me she go on and on about how my dad was messing around on her (all in her wacky mind). And she would preach.

So I divorced her -- by cutting off all contact with her. I don't open any mail from her -- it goes directly into the trash. She keeps putting me on fundie mailing lists -- this stuff doesn't make it out of the post office.

When you have a toxic parent who will NOT accept you and continues to drive you crazy -- YOU have to let the parent know that you are an adult and that they have to respect your decisions. They have done their job and now they need to step back and accept you the way you are.

They will have to be your decision --

But for starters -- just delete fundie related mail from her-- and just don't respond to the mythology she send. YOU have to set boundaries.

you're actually very lucky. Seriously. (I don't intend to dismiss your obvious anguish about this -- this must be a mild example, right? I have long years of painful personal experience with this sort of thing.)

As for what to do, you have several choices. You can ignore it when she sends you something related to religion (this avoids arguments), you can ask her not to send anything else related to religion (this probably won't work), you can break off all ties with her (this is drastic, but it works.)

Or you can deal with each incident on a case by case basis. Write her back and say something like this: "Hi, Mom, I thought it was really amazing that the Koran would have a verse 9:11 about an eagle cleansing the land of Allah. It's such an amazing coincidence that I wondered if it was an urban legend, since there are always a lot of those going around. I looked it up at snopes.com and blah, blah, blah. I thought you should know. I don't know if the rest of it is true or not. It seems like most of it would be since we know the Israelis lived in that part of the world. I know what was Assyria is now in Iraq, and Nineveh was in Assyria, so those statements are true. But why would someone take the time to figure out all this Biblical history and how it relates to Iraq and then spoil it all by lying about the verse in the Koran? I just don't understand why people make up lies like that and it makes me wonder if other things they wrote are also false. Love, Ladyhawk"

Of course, she may feel compelled to check every reference and send you chapter and verse to prove it. Then you just thank her for letting you know. But you have some chance that she'll check things out at snopes.com herself in the future -- nobody likes getting suckered by an urban legend! (And, really, who does dream up the weird stuff that gets passed around?!)

Not political, but just really stupid ... I don't know, empowerment stuff, maybe? Feel-good crap, chain letter stuff. Anyhow, I asked her to please not send me these always-forwarded things, and told her that it was considered rude to send these things on the internet. It took a couple of times, and it hurt her feelings (I really felt terrible about it, but these things piss me off) but she stopped.

If that doesn't work for you, just don't read them.

I hope you and she are able to interact in other ways. Sounds like you need the emotional support from her, and are getting these things instead; and since it's all you're getting you're loath to give up on her altogether. She's not giving you what you want, what you need from her.

I'm so sorry if that's the case. I know what that feels like.

That Iraq sits on top of the world's 2nd largest oil reserves?

Not that that has any relevance to the current events, of course.

"It just isn't. There are certain things like that, myths that are floating around. I'm glad you asked. This war has nothing to do with oil, literally nothing to do with oil."

-- Secreatary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, when asked if this is an oil war

"Let's look at it simply. The most important difference between North Korea and Iraq is that economically, we just had no choice in Iraq. The country swims on a sea of oil."

-- U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, when asked why a nuclear power such as North Korea was being treated differently from Iraq, where hardly any weapons of mass destruction had been found.

44. Hows 'bout:
Edited on Thu Nov-11-04 12:37 AM by lucabrasi
a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev.1:9).The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7.In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanness (Lev.15:19-24).The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

d) Lev.25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev.11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

g) Lev.21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

i) I know from Lev.11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread cotton/polyester blend. He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them (Lev.24:10-16)? Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev.20:14)

And those masses of fundies can elect our leaders, and by consequence decide how many people in Iraq or elsewhere are going to die. That's why I believe any "up yours" approach to them is doomed; it only riles them and makes them more determined not to listen.

I'm convinced that progressives have no choice but to challenge fundies with a tone of respect that might entice many to stop and think; think about the enormous contradiction of Christ's pacifism and compassion and Bush's warrior God. I would like to see a national "questioning" movement that drives fundies to come up with answers to defend their beliefs. In the process, the scales might fall of their eyes, and their leaders revealed as a dangerous false prophet.

she doesn't verbalize what her point is.
it -seems- as though her point is that according to the koran, the US is supposed to wage war on the ME, and therefore it is ok that the US is doing just that.

she might deny that this is her point, since it implies that she uses the holy book of the religion of (what she sees as) the enemy to justify the actions of the people in power who she supports. which is rather odd if you think about it - apparently her own religion offers no justification for the agression she supports.

81. The Part about the Eagle is
made up repuke nonsense and has been shot down many times, send her this link ( http://www.snopes.com/politics/war/quran.asp ) Many of these other Facts are stupid, as well. Who knows where the 3 wise Guys were from, three kings imply 3 different kingdoms, hell biblical scholars can not even agree that there were actually 3 gifts, much less what they were.

83. Well, lets see. First off
Anyone who doesn't know about Mesopotamia is a moron.

And, as for the second part, lets see what book 9, verse 11 has to say:

<9.11> But if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, they are your brethren in faith; and We make the communications clear for a people who know.

89. Milksnakes are from Iraq.
Ladyhawk, Ladyhawk, Ladyhawk:

(You do have three souls, you know.)

Parents are a funny thing. At some point in life, we realize that they are not necessarily powerful and all-knowing people. In many cases, we find that they werte not able to teach us what they didn't know; nor could they instill in us that which was not in them.

For they are but people, as sad and weakly human as we are. And so the first step is to forgive them, to look beyond their faults, to accept them for who they are in the long chain of the generations of your ancestors, and to appreciate the time you have with them.

Remember this: some people must be weak, so that others can be strong. And so it is important not to judge people: neither to look down on some people for their weaknesses, or look up to others for their strengths. For surely if we were all weak in the same areas, or surprisingly if we were all strong in the same areas, humanity would soon degenerate and become extinct. And that potential is playing out, in all places, in Iraq.

"Sometimes, I feel ...like a motherless child." - Ritchie Havens.

90. I replied to ALL!
I am going to check out that Koran verse but I found it and it is NOT what they say it is. I can't find the reply but every time I get one of these I look up the information and FIX it and reply to ALL. Then I save all of the names on the list and use them to send out MY mass emailings.

The latest one - that I found from here where it has a picture of Jesus and George Bush and how they differed in their views actually found its way BACK to me! So people are forwarding MY anti-fundamentalist emails.:D

I get some hate mail too. But I have said on other threads that we need to start doing this because the fundies have been doing it for a LONG time. I think that is one of the reasons they keep the Truth from the American People.

102. Well for one....Koran 9:11 actually says.....
This is a hoax.
The quote is not from anywhere in the Koran (or Quran).
Chapter 9 verse 11 actually says "But if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, they are your brethren in faith; and we make the communications clear for a people who know." (M. H. Shakir translation
