Anyone else think what we need is......
a grassroots, take it to the streets protest like the ones in the 60's and 70's?
This administration is taking away rights, waging an illegal war, taking the country toward a theocracy, and the media is helpless and are being prosecuted for not revealing sources. They are helpless and impotent to help the people of this country.

When the system fails it's up to the people to take it back and make them fix it!

I think that we should call for a million person march on Washington to take this nation back! Think about that. A million angry people carrying signs and marching. That is what this country needs.

I fear if we don't take to the streets soon all of the things we love and cherish as patriots will be gone. We must fight for our freedoms, liberties, and the Constitution! We must stand up in unity and say "We are tired of the bullshit and we WILL not take it anymore!"

What do you think brothers and sisters? Do you think it should be done, who could organize such a large event, and where to start? Maybe right here on DU?

Be blessed

3. Time Warp ?
This isn't 1969. It's time for liberals and Democrats to move on. Repeating the past is not a good way to secure the future.

12. But the past is repeating, the Nazi past.
Sitting on our butts isn't going to change things. That's what the Germans did, sit on their butts and look the other way.

4. You Need to Model MLK and Gandhi, Not Huey
The major premise of your statement is that force is necessary. And it might get some attention . . . for a day or two.

I've been thinking a LOT about what's heppened in the South. My analysis: JIM CROW IS BACK.

Thus, the long-term solution is something more akin to the non-violent Civil Rights movement, not Huey, Rap and the Panthers. The appeal of massive non-violent demonstration is that it leads to long term change, not just a lot of busted heads.

We need to overcome again, all of us.

6. Not my premise at all
I should have been more clear but I am not calling for violence. I am an old Hippie! I just think that the right winged bastards need calling out, and the only way to do that is to take to the streets and protest. I am a pacifist and would never encourage violence as an answer to anything. We need to get out and let this country know we are angry and march on Washington in a peaceful show of our disdain for the direction in which we are being lead. Maybe a million person Patriots For Peace and Freedom March.

8. Go For It!
Glad to hear it. We need massive, powerful, peaceful -- to embarass that moron in the Oval Office.

MLK's most effective grassroots campaign was the bus boycott in Montgomery, right?

Only problem: we can't boycott gasoline! This pisses me off.

5. Timing is everything, or nearly so . . . .
I love the big A.N.S.W.E.R. rallies in Washington. They could be an ally in making such a thing happen.

Re timing : There are many grassroots organizing right now, and that work will take priority over all other work for many of us at least until Spring, I estimate.

A Washington rally could be something I personally survey about as we go forward.

7. is it just me or
do we need to organize many simultaneous rallys and protests in many cities in the near future....i am confused as to why this has not happened already. if not about possible vote fraud and the need for every vote to be truly counted, then at least to show our utter detestment of the shrub and what he stands for. i live in san diego, any one else around here up for some good old protesting, i feel motivated tonite.

9. Massive Multi-City Rallies/Teach-In
Liberally doused with churchmen.

It'd make Bush's Baptist Bullies crazy. Think about it.

10. I was thinking the same thing.
Edited on Thu Nov-11-04 01:03 AM by Cleita
We should get people together locally and protest at places to get attention. Like in my area, we could protest at our Congressional representatives offices when they were in town. We also have a mission in San Luis Obispo which is kind of a meeting place for those kind of things. Last time, they were having a freeper rally there for the war. However, I think everyone is getting sour on the Iraqi war now and now we could put up some graphic pictures about what is happening, slogans, new protest songs and old ones would be good too.

Maybe this could be something through MoveOn.

On edit: We should do this once a week, or even once a month for the gadfly effect.

13. I like the regional ideas as well BUT
the things that have gotten the most attention in my lifetime are HUGE marches on Washington. Man I want this to happen!
Just millions of angry, pissed off people shouting "We are here to reclaim the Constitution and our Homeland! Bush Must Go!"

14. Some of us can't do that.
Edited on Thu Nov-11-04 01:19 AM by Cleita
Like I am caregiver to my ailing husband and he can't be left on his own to care for himself. I couldn't bring him either because he has to have dialysis every other day. However, I could take off on a morning locally once a week.

Also, think of doing these protests locally to build up momentum for the time you plan on marching on Washington. It could be a blending of all these little protests coming together from all states and moving toward Washington. Then the news outlets will have to start noticing as the movement swells and swells in numbers as it approaches the nation's capitol.

15. I understand and agree it could start regionally
I also can relate to your situation as a caregiver, my wife's 90 year old Grandma lives with us. I still think that a sea of protesters on the mall in Washington would stir something in the hearts of people like nothing else could. I'm ready to go!

11. I am looking for an organization to contact
that might have the means and muscle needed to pull this thing off. Any suggestions? I seriously think that this country needs to be turned on it's head right now and the only way I have ever seen that done in my lifetime is by peaceful protest in VERY large numbers.
Who could pull it off. You bet your life I'll be the first to sign up and be there! We need a gigantic march on Washington!!!! Stop people what's that sound, everybody look what's goin down! I'm into this idea big time!

Be blessed

17. WAS Hoping for much more support here
Oh well maybe people just can't come together anymore for the common good. Maybe it's not the right idea for the times...but I still like it!
Maybe I'll try it on other sites and see what stirs. We have to come together and get in the streets and show our real power. Power to the people!

19. dont lose hope man
a gigantic march on washington would be an awsome site to behold, and i would be there in a second, be it by plane train or car. But i think that regional rallies and protests are the first step. I always thought i was born in the wrong decade...looks like i will get a chance to go to the streets with people of like minds and a noble goal after all.
