Important Event (Religion in U.S. Politics) in NYC next Thursday 11/18
At Riverside Church on Riverside Drive @ 120th street.

On November 18th, 2004 two weeks after one of the closest presidential elections in American history, the Riverside Church/Mobilization 2004 and New York Common Ground will co-sponsor Where Do We Go From Here?: an Interfaith Dialogue on Religion and the Future of American politics. The purpose of this event is to assess to the role of prophetic religion in shaping our democracy.

Given the high levels poverty and disenfranchisement in our nation, the outcome of presidential elections will not change the need for progressive communities of faith to organize on the behalf of “the least of these.” The noted scholars and theologians on the panel will discuss the prophetic tradition of religion in America, the power of the Religious Right, the war in Iraq, poverty in America, and exploring the next steps for the progressive community of faith in American politics.

I'm going to try to get out of a class so that I can attend. It'd be great to see some other DU'ers there :)

1. Cornell West is a good speaker.
I've not heard any of the other scheduled speaker before, but Riverside Church always puts on a good program. I'll be the blondhaired guy with the beard and PLO scarf. ;)

4. Reverend Forbes is an excellent speaker
If you can get ahold of it you should listen to Bill Moyers interview with him on NOW. It was fantastic. He's a very inspirational speaker and just the kind of person we need.

2. Thanks for the info...
I heard Rev. Forbes on Morning Sedition today and I am happy to have the link so that I can pass the info on to a group of friends. I hope to have several friends accompany me or join me at this meeting.
