Why does Rush Limbaugh hate the Trees?
Edited on Thu Nov-11-04 11:33 AM by ck4829
What did they ever do to him?

"The most beautiful thing about a tree is what you
do after you cut it down."

"We have more trees in this country today than when
the Declaration of Independence was written. The wackos
will tell you that's impossible."

"There are more acres of forestland in America today
than when Columbus discovered the continent in 1492"

Why does Rush seem to forget that the trees provide everyone with life-giving oxygen?

4. I still have not seen the details
but I *suspect* the basis for that claim is that in colonial times, all you had was vast expanses of old growth forests. These provided a very thick canopy, thus choking out most seedlings and new trees. In other words, you had a much greater *area* of trees, but much fewer trees needed to cover it.

Today, they count xmas tree farms, replanted forests, etc., etc. and the total NUMBER of trees might just be greater, because most of them are saplings or a few years old.

Though I'd like to know how anyone could even make a guesstimate on the number of trees in America during the colonial era.

6. Or he's just lying.
He also used to say that there are more American Indians alive now than when Columbus landed. Even if you count people who are only 1/2 or 1/4 American Indian, that's not even CLOSE to being true.

12. I know, I know
but... wow. Just... wow.

Maybe his argument is based on the fact that when the Declaration was written, "America" only constituted the northeast. You know, the Blue States.

15. it makes total sense (smaller new growth therefore higher #s)
also allot of farm land cleared in the 1800s in new england has been abandoned and now has trees on it. Probably smaller examples not like old growth. Rush sucks

18. What about areas of the country
that were once completely covered in forest but are now cleared as farmland, cities, and other open space?

It just sounds so strange.

What are his sources for this claim? How could such a study have been possible?

Then again, if Rush told me it was raining, I would have to go outside to be sure.

11. What an idiot
"We have more trees in this country today than when
the Declaration of Independence was written. The wackos
will tell you that's impossible."

Maybe because the country back then was a fraction of the size it is now?

13. He's just helping the anti-environmental corporatists out a bit
He is known to advocate genetic engineering of foods as well. I scratched my head, too, when I heard him go on and on about genetically-engineered foods until it dawned on me that there's money to be made by his supporters in this as well as tree harvesting. Rush Limbaugh should be tried for crimes against humanity.

16. He doesn't hate the trees,
he hates the people who appreciate the trees. Everything Rush says is about how much he hates Americans. The trees are just the innocent bystanders of his hate spray.
