How to respond to the Bush won by 5 million popular votes?
Looking for some suggestions.

My friend acknowledged that there were irregularities, but she replied in saying that Bush won by 5 million popular votes?

We will never know the truth about this election because of the massive potential rigging of the machines.

4. massively rigged election
votes skimmed all over the country. maybe as much as 5-10 million votes. noone knows. The NH count hopefully (crossed fingers) will demonstrate that we are not crazy.

7. There are two points here...
The first being US elections aren't decided on popular vote as we found re 2000, Gore had the popular vote but the decision is based on the electoral college so the point is moot.

If your friend still throws the popular vote around the number the media is reporting is 3.5 million. If there was election fraud whereby Kerry votes were switched to bush, there are certainly indications of that, the number of votes needed to change the outcome of the popular vote is 1.80, less than 2% of the number of votes cast given the media has reported anywhere from 105 to 120 million votes cast.

So, are you saying that whoever won the popular vote should be president? Just like President Gore?

11. Missing Voters
The official tally shows a 54% voter turnout. In 2000, the voter turnout was 51%.

With all the long lines, etc., it is impossible that only 54% of voters turned out to vote. We are missing about 35 million votes if the actual turnout was 70% as was estimated.

look for my previous threads for the calculations or the one asking if we weren't missing like 10 million voters.

13. until my dying day, I will never believe that Bush got more votes . . .
than Kerry this year . . . rationality, common sense and history all say "No way!" . . . I'm not exactly sure how they did it, but they sure as hell stole this thing in a massive, nationwide way . . .

18. You might mention
That the votes are STILL being counted. The provisional ballots won't be looked at until tomorrow.

And it may very well be that Bush won a good majority of the popular vote. Without resolving the black box problem, we'll never be able to have any faith in our elections. There MUST be a paper trail. If this is looked into and Bush is still the victor, fine (yuk), but the problems with the lack of integrity of these machines is still there. I think it should be looked into in blue states as well.

This isn't about overturning the election (although that could be a farfetched outcome) it's about making sure our elections are fair and secure.

26. Popular vote
1) popular vote doesn't matter - just ask Al Gore.
2) More people voted agsint Bush than any other president.
3) Turnout was 59% so 30% voted *, 29% voted Kerry, 41% "none of the above" with 70% not voting for you, you don't have a mandate!
4) more people voted for the 45 Dem Senators than voted for the 55 Repub Senators. This NOT a "Red" country.

30. For starters
For starters the popular vote doesn't matter. If it did, Gore would have been president last time.

Bush won by 136,000 votes (if that) in Ohio.

As they constantly told us in 2000, tell them that we have an electoral college. Focusing on the popular vote is futile.
