Private Ryan Saves War
http://www.progressive.org/zinn1098.htm

(snip)

We can argue endlessly over whether there was an alternative in the short run, whether fascism could have been resisted without fifty million dead. But the long-term effect of World War II on our thinking was pernicious and deep. It made war--so thoroughly discredited by the senseless slaughter of World War I--noble once again. It enabled political leaders--whatever miserable adventure they would take us into, whatever mayhem they would wreak on other people (two million dead in Korea, at least that many in Southeast Asia, hundreds of thousands in Iraq) and on our own--to invoke World War II as a model.

1. My local CBS station isn't showing it
I was all set to watch Saving Private Ryan tonight, but my local CBS affiliate is too afraid to show it. They're afraid of getting fined by the FCC (at least that's what they said).

3. Dare we air a movie about Real War? Let's Celebrate Vet Day the FCC Way!
This is just plain ridiculous. Something has got to give here, and soon. Can't anyone control their kids TV viewing if they don't want them to watch a great movie, that perhaps, in their parents' eyes would SCAR them for life. Like the Networks hadn't already edited the bad stuff. All I know is that I was born w 10 fingers, and 10 toes, and if I don't want to watch / hear something, I simply utilize one of these appendages to change what's on. But, at least I have the choice. For now. Most people in this great country are losing sight of the ideals of why we left many European countries in the first place. I, for one, am tired of having others' opinions thrust down my throat, in the name of "morality". I'll be responsible for that.

5. channel 5 in Boston is Playing "Far and Away"
I'm not sure which is outrageous.

I would like to see more carnage on tv. A nation of distant morons who have no clue what their tax dollars are funding could use it. I of course am not talking about Saving private Ryan, but putting truth back into the news.

6. I didn't know...
that there was a gratuitous boobie shot in the movie...

Is it Tom Hanks or Matt Damon with the wardrobe malfunction?
