She sent me Dr. Phil's book. I got through a few pages and couldn't read anymore. What a phony! He may be sincere (and I don't think he is, really), but I don't like taking advice from people who can't even be honest with themselves and like to make up or embellish shit. Anyway, I didn't have the heart to tell my aunt that there was no way I was going to finish that book. She kind of banished me, figuring I was a hopeless case as far as personal growth because I didn't discuss Dr. Phil or the book with her. :(

I recently worked for a cancer research organization, and one of the companies within the cancer research organization (they mainly raised funding via runs, walks, charity events) was publishing a celebrity cook book and the sole purpose of the cookbook was to raise funds for cancer research.

I think all in all, about 30 or so celebrities lent their names and recipes for the book. They (obviously) took no compensation for the book.

Dr Phil was contacted about being a part of the cookbook. He said he would only participate if the following conditions were met

1) HIS name and face appear on the cover of the book
2) The title of the book be changed from "Celebrities for a Cure" (fictional name) to "Dr Phil's Celebrity Cookbook" (again, fictional name, but general point made)
3) HE was the sole promoter of the book
4) HE was listed as creator and collaborator of said book.

He never even made a firm answer as to whether or not he would give any of the $$ from the sale of the book to the charity in the end.

His staff was quite.....rude about teh whole thing. As if you must expect that Dr Phil would never participate in anything WITHOUT the above conditions :eyes:

At least Martha Stewart's people were upfront and said that Martha didn't lend her name or celebrity to anything that wasn't under her complete control, had her name on it and he rface on it and that she got 100% credit for.

The Dr PHil people dicked my company around---a company that fights for all the cancer research $$ it can---they could have spent so much time following up USEFUL leads instead of playing patty-cake with the Egomaniac Dr Phil.
