My mom (82) has a lung condition. Dad has his stomach in his chest from a an esophogectomy last year. They have a house cleaner, a young woman, who is in the hospital with the flu! This is crazy! Their 25 year old house cleaner, who was just there a couple of days ago, is in the damn hospital with the flu! I think Bu$h may have killed hundreds of thousands with his total fuck-up of this issue. My parents cannot find a fucking flu shot in Spalding County Georgia. WTF?

9. if you're willing to take a ride to Canada
you can get one at the drugstore. You'll need your birthcertificate and driverlicense to get back and forth over the border. But It could be worth the trip.

8. If my mom gets the flu, she dies.
My brother, a MD in Atlanta is working on it. This is insane. This has nothing but profit motive written all over it. Flu vaccines have a low profit yield. We have been told this over, and over. FUCK THE DRUG COMPANIES AND THEIR PROFITS! NATIONALIZE THEM TOMORROW, ALONG WITH THE AIRLINES! Hit me with a rational, compassionate argument as to why we should not do just that.

12. Because...
lines would reach for miles outside of hospitals and the best medicines will not be available because the trial lawyers will sue whenever they can so drug prices will sky rocket and the liberals in the government won't want to give you the best care because they're afraid and and and and and *Collapses in flames*

Socialized medicine is for the COMMUNISTS!!!!!!!! But it works in Canada. Canawho?! :puke:

16. at least one US doctor has gotten vaccine shipped in from Canada
Heard the news story this week. It was sent in by courier (some concerns that the company didn't have access to refrigeration for the entire time, but apparently it did get through to California successfully).

One reason why Canada's been able to keep up its domestic vaccine-producing capacity is the assurance of large bulk orders from the provinces. Especially Ontario, with several million people who've been getting government-provided flu shots for the same reason you brought up earlier, DemoTex -- if that 20-something house cleaner is also immunized, it's much easier to break the chain of transmission. So Ontario decided to offer vaccinations for everybody.

Is there any sign of action by Georgia or the county, re: providing vaccine for the high-risk residents? The board of health, or somebody?

26. I'm with you on that, pal.
The 'Misery Profiteers' of (so-called) health care should be shut down and run out of town. What nation needs to spend 40% more for 30% less than sane countries like Canada and France?

Fuck 'em. Nationalize 'em.

Besides being inept and incompetent, he's the President again anyway. Those who actually do his work, like making sure we get this done, are heartless IMHO. They don't care.

Every goddamn one of them got the damn shot. Oh, this is rich. Oh, it is corrupt. I could puke right now. My mom might get sick and die but the evil bitch Barbara Bu$h is protected. Oh, save me Jesus! I have seen the beast! 666! W!

21. Ha ha.
Did you see the news bytes before the election when both Bush and Kerry said they wouldn't get flu shots until everyone did. Did you see the smirk on Bush's face? I believe Kerry didn't get one at that time but you can be sure Bush already got his.

13. Are their pneumonia vaccinations up to date?
Edited on Thu Nov-11-04 10:33 PM by prolesunited
I have asthma and should have gotten one as well. I was in the doctor's office this week for a throat infection and got one.

He was livid about the fact that thousands would needlessly die. He has asthma as well and can't even find one for himself either.

Pneumonia is the leading complication from the flu and what many die of, so you may get sick as hell but you likely won't die if you get the pneumonia shot.

I had a lot of swelling and pain in my arm from it for a day, but it's good for five years.

On edit: Even if they did get to flu shot now, it wouldn't protect them from the housekeeper. There are some anti-virals on the market that help lessen the flu if you take them in the first day or two.

NOBODY has any vaccine?!?!

Best health-care system in the country? Yeah, right? Then why are thousands going to die of something that can be prevented? Perhaps this is the way they'll start to fund their revamp of Social Security.

24. This is such a sad thread....what a mess we're in...
I'm in stunned disbelief that the elderly among you cannot get the vaccines they so desperately need.

One word comes to mind: GENOCIDE

That word may be over the top, but if it shames any powers that be into action, then I let it stand.

I am middle aged. I believe I can make it without a shot; my husband may not be able to. He has asthma and other respiratory conditions plus a plethora of additional medical problems. His doctor wouldn't give him a shot either. He "said" he didn't have any. Hubby called the county clinic and they said he had to have a referral from his doc. His doc is a quack who will NOT move off the dime to make things happen for my hubby. I'm watching him go downhill for lack of appropriate care. Hubby is handicapped, on SSI with medicaid. He is not allowed to go to "any" doctor. "Any" doctor won't take him anyway because of Medicaid.

What we live with is not just a shortage of medicines (vaccines in this case), but we live with a low income medical service/profession that won't reach out and help us. Flu or no flu.

What we on the bottom experience (more often than not) is starting to trickle up.....

I so deeply feel for those folks across the country who are NOT BEING SERVED WELL by the medical profession and this society. I completely understand the outrage....have been there many times myself.

I do appreciate the poster that recommended a pneumonia shot; I had forgotten that. We will try to pursue that angle forthwith.

THANK YOU CANADA!!! The land of the free and compassionate..
