Odd Story from Iraq
This is third-hand, so I don't know if it's accurate, but it sort of rings true to me:

Someone recently back from Iraq on leave (and going back tonight! ) told a friend that the suicide car-bombers are innocent Iraqis whose families are taken hostage. The father gets a choice: drive the bomb and die or watch his family be slaughtered.

For some reason, the soldiers are not supposed to reveal this to the press under threat of Leavenworth, which seems odd, because it would actually help Bush's case to make that public (I think). Maybe all of you already know this and I just missed the thread. But the soldier complained that none of this was making the news, so I thought I would put it out there and see if anyone knows more.

I know Peace for Iraq is a hopeless cause, but I'll offer up a little prayer for it anyway. They're sure not going to get much from someone who kills women and children and calls it "Democracy."

1. Who is telling them to drive the bombs?
Is it other Iraqis, or is it American psyops troops?

2. vietnam
My friend who fought in Vietnam said the same thing. But he said that they'd hold the mother and father and send the kid off to approach the soldiers with a gun or bomb. Damn that's so sad!

3. either that, or
they're willing to kill themselves to defend their country.

Or, let's toss the "80 virgins are waiting for them in heaven" theory back into the mix...
