Saving Private Ryan - I Just heard the F word on TV
I wonder if Powell is going to fine ABC for showing "Saving Private Ryan" uncut and uncensored?

Double-standards anyone?

3. None at all!
My attitude has always been, put everything out there and let people decide for themselves.

13. No I don't think they or anyone else should be fined
I like Europe -- they actually walk the walk as far as lack of censorship is concerned.

I think that the U.S. is insanely anal and hypocritical.

My point is that since this is a movie that glorifies the military, it will get a pass.

I think glorifying the military is obscene but I'll defend to the death their right to do it.

2. I was traumatized!
Indeed, all Americans of good conscience must contact the FCC and file a complaint. Because, as we all know, the FCC would *never* have a double standard for the F-word when it comes to Our Troops.

4. If we're lucky the FCC won't get any complaints about this
My ABC affiliate isn't airing it because they're afraid of the right-wing congress.

Edited on Thu Nov-11-04 11:24 PM by Kathy in Cambridge
there is worse violence on "Fear Factor" and other reality programs.

:wtf:

The movie can be construed as anti-war and is not the best recruiting tool.

8. Did your ears bleed? Instant migraine headache? Struck by lightning?
I'm just wondering what kinds of deleterious effects the Fuck word has when spoken on broadcast television. Clearly it must be something strange and terrible, perhaps worse than seeing an exposed boob during the Superbowl halftime show.

11. All day long the fundamentalist have been bitching on cable
covered all day on cable news...like now this movie is just...
soooo, sooo immoral.

I'm sorry, Janet Jackson flashing everyone is one thing...

but this film is about war. What do they think war is?

"make it pretty, make it nice" or we'll boycott, we'll fine...

but they have no problems endorsing uni-lateral "new world order"
neocon agenda.

I keep thinking these people will just blow up one day from all of
the hypocrisy in their brain.

12. The first time I heard the "F" word on TV....
...was probably 20 years ago. I was a teenager and "The Deer Hunter" was on the local independent station in Minneapolis. The F word was not censored.

14. I guess I should wait
I haven't seen the movie yet (I'm watching it now) before deciding if it glorifies war or not.

That first scene does show some of the gore, the guys barfing their guts out before hitting the beach, etc. -- that's a good thing.
Anything that could scare some testosterone poisened teen-ager into NOT joining the military is ok by me.
