Question re Canadian and international DU'ers especially me in particular
I was thinking that I wondered if Canadian and international DU'ers, myself in particular should respond to the whole American election / political situation kind of like the passengers on the first 3 "September 11 flights," for it's just that I was thinking we don't have much of a say in things anyways.

1. We're speaking up while we can...
Join in by all means.

I sure wish I was Canadian about now.

2. Maybe I was thinking where was one of those post September 11 airline
captains who advocated a "mile high club" of a different sort when when we needed them.

3. I'm Canadian, living in the USA.
I feel very strongly about politics here. In fact I'm far more outspoken here than I was at home in Ontario. I know more about the different parties and what they stand for than I ever did before when I lived in Canada. That's partly due to the fact that I only became a Canadian Citizen in 1993 and wasn't able to vote so I didn't pay much attention. Living in the USA while unable to vote I have a very outspoken Democrat husband who is WAY left thinking and has championed me on in my quest for learning. Having said all that, I've been told by others that I have NO business speaking out against "their president". I tell them I'm sorry he's THEIR president and when I'm able to have citizenship I'll do my best to help them elect a better one. But for now I'm learning, reading and speaking out. I'm responsible for 5 FIVE people voting for John Kerry and John Edwards. My big mouth did it's job. So , NO don't stop putting in your two cents worth, you just MIGHT influence someone. That's my thought on it anyway.

8. One thing we can do is to make sure Canada stays out of the empire's wars.
Our participation in the invasion of Afghanistan was bad enough. Never again. No matter what they do to us. Never again. Scared the hell out of me every time I heard Kerry talk about getting US allies more involved in Iraq. You want to help a friend in need, but not when he's committing mass murder.

10. When I post here, I post with discretion.
I do not post re: US taxes, the US health care system (unless I can offer some clarity via ours), state senate races, individual state initiatives, and the like. In fact, I could give a fuck. It's none of my business. (Not to sound crass, but it really isn't)

I DO, however, care dearly about nukes flying over my head on their way to Seattle from North Korea, because a certain fucking retard from Texas lacks the social skills to deal with an equal fucking retard in Pyongyang. They both reside in the same cesspool of willful ignorance, and it's getting dangerous.

Secondly, I have dual Canadian/EU citizenship through marriage (my wife's from Paris). I spend at least four months of the year in France. I'm a regular white guy, I wear Levi's, and my english accent is not British. In other words, when I'm in France, I MAY AS WELL BE AMERICAN because it's naturally the first impression everyone has - especially from Muslims. And I'm here to tell my American friends: IT AIN'T PRETTY. It's not entirely unwarranted, either.

When I'm in France, I'm not in touristy areas. I'm in the 'burbs of Paris, Pau (Pyrenees) where we have a flat, at meme's in Nice, etc. In these environments, the animosity towards me - the "vicarious" Yank - is fucking breathtaking, and it's starting to reaaly bug me.

I've never been one to wear a maple leaf on my day pack, I've always thought it silly and unnecessary, but I got one this past summer - amost for sheer survival and to ward off the pesks. Laugh if you will, but when I'm in Marseilles (dumpy port city, 60% Muslim, simple ferry ride from North Africa), THAT'S MY ASS ON THE LINE WHEN I'M WALKING HOME FROM THE BAR. I'll wear the maple leaf, thank you very much.

But I digress. I'm here to tell Americans: "As your vicarious 'agent', trust me - it's not about jealousy over fucking 'freedoms'. Don't be a simpleton. It's a little more complex than that." American DUer's already know this.

Finally, I'm in my fourties. My absolute favourite teacher in high school was my grade 10 social studies teacher - A DRAFT RESISTER from Portland, OR. Brilliant man. He's still here and I still see him; he's a graphic artist in his sixties. I owe the guy.

If there IS a draft, my American friends, you can have my couch or the floor, because it's gonna be a real fucking mess. And I know it's not your fault.

11. Too bad "naturalized" Americans were barred from running for President
for I bet were he so inclined to run, I bet a certain former Canadian ambassador guy, as in Ken Taylor, aka the exfiltrator, aka "Mr Canada Caper," would have kicked *'s sorry butt back to Texas

13. I don't know exactly what you're getting at....
But OK...how about Jim Carrey for prez? Even with his comic range, he still could'nt possibly even ACT as stupid as Bush.

How about Lorne Michaels from SNL? Put some "suave" back into the presidency. (Wait, he's still Canadian...after 25yrs, he's satisfied with just the green card.)

Neil Young? His hair's now short & greying...could be presidential... (Wait. He's still Canadian, too. He may be moving back after years in Northern California)

15. The guy of which I spoke is the 1 time Canadian ambassador guy who snuck
the Americans who eluded capture at their embassy out of Iran at the height of the hostage incident back in '80.

be on a plane with me since they thought I spoke of an actual aircraft or something.

16. I can't speak for all of DU
but I for one would love to hear not only Canadian Opinions but those from around the world. So much of what the US does effects your countries, but so many times we never realize the affect we have. I say speak up i'll be glad to hear what you have to say.

You know American's are rarely sigh about butting into your countries affairs.
