I watched "60 minutes" segment on war wounded until I snapped it off in disgust, shaking my head. What is so sad and outrageous about these stories is the utter and total deindividualization of so many of those coming back and their loved ones who sit there without even questioning, much less protesting the war. Nothing comes from them. They don't speak in outrage they don't ask for anything they merely sit there describing what happened.
I have seen numerous incidents like this. The blindly faithful unwavering in their loyalty to the Christian fundie ideology. We truly are two differant countries. The mother of this kid who got horribly wounded and now hospitalized was simply standing there unable to cry, question, or even think that just fucking maybe, maybe, there are alternatives to all of this shit. Compare this scenario to people here at DU and the anti-war community in general who question the government. There is a vast chasm between these dumbed down self hating fools and the reality based community.
What causes people to be so utterly devoid of expectations and the ability to assert their rights? I think it is because the CIA population control programs in all of its forms backed up by the massive fundie Christian deindividualization and dumbing down process have produced a perfectly mallible, self-loathing, guilt ridden crop of intellectual zombies to fight their corporate wars.
How this is done amidst so much information is what boggles the mind. But never underestimate the power of ignorance. These Christian soldiers are as easily steered away from learning and knowledge as livestock is from "poison" water. The slogans and labeling turn them off to the reality based community before a word is spoken and the inertia of fear and ignorance that ensues leaves them unable to question the world around them. Peer pressure to believe the earth was created via Genesis is the first lie drummed into their head.
Anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices. - Voltaire, 1767.
I would add that in addition to making you commit injustices the believer in absurdities is just as willing to let injustices be committed to him/her.
I see no way of ever bridging this chasm short of a a massive psycho-therapy program for Bush lovers if and when the fascists are driven from power. And that is a big if. There is no way to communicate anything meaningful to these people. They are only going to learn, if they ever learn it, which I strongly doubt, through the brutality of their experience.
