Suggestion for discussion forum: Religion & Spirituality
I've noticed a lot of threads lately about religion and prayer and not the in your face kind of "my religion, right or wrong" type stuff that is such a turn off to nonreligious types.

I've felt a yearning myself to "take back Jesus." I'm tired of extremists who believe they have him all figured out.

I'm also tired of the right acting like we are so immoral because when I look around these discussion boards, I see a lot of caring and compassionate people.

I was just thinking it would be great for people who come here to find fault with us to see an actual forum entitled "Religion & Spirituality."

Maybe we could have some intelligent conversation about what our beliefs. I, for one, am often touched by things Anne Lamott writes and have also been intrigued by mentions of Buddhism and other religions that occasionally appear in discussions here.

So, how about a "Religion & Spirituality" forum? Or even a "Values, Religion & Spirituality"?

1. I agree. I think we should have a place for such discussion.
Not sure what to call it but I like the idea.

2.  I like the idea..maybe "Faith and Spirituality"...the RW'ers and their
agenda are the antithesis of the biblical teachings of Jesus. And of course, people practice and define faith and spirituality in different ways...great suggestion. MKJ

4. great idea.
I think it would be an interesting forum. It would have the potential of being one of the more popular places on DU, and would allow those who do not want to read anything about spirituality to avoid the subject.

5. Yes. And I've noticed there seem to be a lot of people here
who are searching for something in the way of spirituality, and I think this would be a great place to learn about these things. Of course, I just described myself, so I may be overly-tuned in to this kind of thing.

6. It could serve as a resource
for, among other things, people who are interested in CO status for a possible draft.

It could also be useful in finding common ground on the various religious and spiritual beliefs of different DU members. It might be helpful in discussing how to apply lessons from other cultural manifestations in these modern times.

7. I think it would be great
There are a lot of sites out there that give opinion pieces to be discussed and there are a lot of people out there who are spiritual/religious that would like to discuss them. I also think it would be a great place to pick up talking points for those less involved in the religious life. We have forums for most other topics except this one here at the DU.

Iris, I think it would fall on you to put up the first post in the discussion forum. I bet that would be an easy thing and much enjoyed. Write to Skinner, Elad and EarlG to get this going.
