transmuting anger into redemption. . .?
Okay,

someone had posted a really extreme thread which I was compelled to respond to. It was way over the top. While I was typing I think the Mods wisely caught it and deleted it. Suffice it to say it was extreme. But it got me thinking.

Here is my response. . .

I think we all better be careful about these sorts of threads.

He's supposedly in for four more years. We can more than likely expect a Patriot Act II that will unquestionably further challenge our civil rights. (see our soon to be "torture memo" AG for reference)

Though it's obvious that you were being entirely facetious, this sort of threat is a most serious offense.

Furthermore I wonder if the rampant hatred for * has in some obtuse energetic way enabled him to maintain his power (I know, I know. . . certainly coupled with the blatant voting irregularities and an ever complicit media).

I'm just speculating as to whether there might just be a way to transmute our most justifiable anger to ultimately redeem our country. We all are probably still in shock facing the prospect of four more years, but once we adjust, I'm just hoping we won't continue to deplete our energies by projecting our energies onto such an unworthy opponant. I truly fear it somehow empowers him.

Just wondering here. . .

1. What's practical?
I'm certainly a fan of "don't get mad, get even." But I don't know how to implement that in this case.

The extreme rhetoric is tied up with the problems noted by Orcinus, a/k/a journalist David Niewert. His beat is the extremist militias and white supremacist movements that inspire and enable America's domestic terrorists, the Turner Diaries fanatics like Tim McVeigh. These people take seriously all the stuff Ann Coulter babbles about, how the libruls need to be eliminated before we destroy the country. I certainly believe that there are people out there who wish to do me harm, and are prevented from doing so only because I live 2000 miles away from them among a bunch of other libruls in a blue state. So even though I do feel specifically threatened, I don't feel like I need to take specific steps to defend myself. But if I'm wrong, I'm very tragically wrong.

Anyway, I don't talk openly about armed resistance, because I don't want to give them any philosophical justification for thinking what I fear they think about us.

2. what's impractical
is taking the same course we have taken in the past four years of having a logical and scrutinizing response to faith based propaganda, or spewing vitriole in the direction of the administration incessantly. The media and a daunting percentage of the population doesn't give a hoot about the facts or logic or reason.

As for the Timothy McVeigh factor, few people acknowledge that he was a Desert Storm Vet with a serious ax to grind, as was John Allen Mohammed (the D.C. sniper). You combine that knowledge with the awareness that our Iraq War vets are not getting psychological care or are on 6 month waiting lists for basic medical services and you've got a whole lot of serious trouble brewing. Especially since the wounded and casualties of Desert Storm are dwarfed entirely by the figures resulting from the travesty of this current war.

I really don't think that they're after squeech though.

I'm personally am armed with spitballs, a really cool gel pen, and my laptop only.
